York review
Review of The York, Sydney by bensed

Advantages: Great rooms & facilities
Disadvantages: not close to any good reasturants, no direct views of the Harbour

I stayed in the York in a serviced apartment in 2002. We had a great view of the city centre from our balcony, the room was HUGE! and also had (as you would expect from they type of room) washing/drying facilities, fully fitted kitchen, the furniture was of a very good standard (the bed was marvellous!) and we had cable TV (not that we watched it much) also it was a quiet room with no noise from other appts. It was the 1st place we stayed in Sydney ...
...the city to full advantage. In that 1 week we explored (on foot as it is quite small) all of the CBD (Central Business District - AKA city centre) it is all easily accessible from the York. Darling Harbour is a short trip away as is Circular Quay - which is where you can get a ferry to most places in the Sydney area. China town is on the same road that the York is on and there is a cinema close by (10 min walk) they now have a Krispy Kream's just ... Read review

On The Rocks?
Review of The Russell, Sydney by snowbunni

Advantages: Unsurpassed Location, Period Features, Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: No Air-conditioning

...January 1788, he was on the verge of establishing the farthest outpost the British Empire had ever seen. Having surveyed the shoreline, he quickly decided upon a suitable area for a settlement, and his crew and convict charges disembarked at a sheltered, rocky area, beneath the site of the present day Harbour Bridge. In time, this area would become known as 'The Rocks'. In the century that followed, the early settlement grew into a village, initially ...
...however, eventually transforming itself into the massive metropolis we now know as Sydney. The frailty of the early settlement made hardiness and intrepidity essential, and many convicts died long before any prospect of emancipation. Those who survived, however, crafted the foundations upon which a great city was built, and many of their achievements are still very much in evidence to this day. THE ROCKS: Sydney's earliest colonial buildings were ... Read review

The place to stay in Sydney
Review of Meriton Rialto Apartments, Sydney by manimal

Advantages: Clean, excellent service, near to city centre.
Disadvantages: Near very noisy pub, not a great view from apartment.

...other minor fault with the Meriton is we were in a one bedroom apartment but they had placed the beds so that you couldn't close the bedroom door. The location of the hotel was in the centre of the shopping district and to get to the major attractions of Sydney it was a 20-40 minute walk. The facilities in the apartment were excellent and its was very clean with a daily maid service, this covered having your bed made, new towels and replenishment ...
...facilities in the room were excellent. There was the television, fridge and freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, dish washer, washer and dryer and an ironing board and iron. There was also a gas hob which i decided not to risk trying. The apartments were very clean, especially the bathroom which had a sink, shower and toilet and plenty of cupboard space in which to put your toiletries. The cupboards were all mirrored making it easy for me to have ... Read review

Great for a short break
Review of Pacific International Hotel, Sydney by Joll

Advantages: Close to Central Station and within walking distance of most attractions.
Disadvantages: No views.

My husband and I recently spent four days at this hotel. We were pleasantly surprised at how near the hotel is to Central Station. There is no need to get a taxi, it took 5 minutes to walk. The hotel is in an old listed building, which is decorated in the Art Deco style. Our room was quite small but was clean and had everything you would expect from a four star hotel. The only downside was that we did not have a view, but this didn't really bother ...
...only came back to sleep. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the cooked breakfast was excellent. There is a car park in the basement which we used for one night, at a charge, although the spaces are a little tight. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would definitely stay there again. Great value for money. ... Read review

Good Value, Comfortable, excellent location
Review of Best Western Hotel Unilodge, Sydney by legal_angel25

Advantages: Cheap but very cheerful
Disadvantages: rooms are quite small

...said, it is also a Best Western Hotel. Our room was small, but very comfortable and kame with a full-size fridge, microwave, kettle, sink and crockery. Tea and coffee making facilities were refreshed every day and the sheets were always very clean. The shower was excellent also. The hotel has an indoor pool and small gym in the basement and the reception staff were friendly. Don\'t go expecting that your bags will be carried to your room or you\'ll ...
...brisk 10-15 minute walk to Darling Harbour or a short bus/train ride to Circular Quay from Central station which is a 5 minute walk away. For eating out, I would recommend a very short walk around the corner to Glebe Point Road which is filled with every different type of restaurant you could wish for - I would recommend the Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Saigon. The hotel is opposite the Broadway shopping mall which has a supermarket and plethora ... Read review
