York review

Advantages: Great rooms & facilities
Disadvantages: not close to any good reasturants, no direct views of the Harbour

I stayed in the York in a serviced apartment in 2002. We had a great view of the city centre from our balcony, the room was HUGE! and also had (as you would expect from they type of room) washing/drying facilities, fully fitted kitchen, the furniture was of a very good standard (the bed was marvellous!) and we had cable TV (not that we watched it much) also it was a quiet room with no noise from other appts. It was the 1st place we stayed in Sydney ...
...the city to full advantage. In that 1 week we explored (on foot as it is quite small) all of the CBD (Central Business District - AKA city centre) it is all easily accessible from the York. Darling Harbour is a short trip away as is Circular Quay - which is where you can get a ferry to most places in the Sydney area. China town is on the same road that the York is on and there is a cinema close by (10 min walk) they now have a Krispy Kream's just ...

Room with a view - and then some!

Advantages: The most spectacular views of Sydney Bridge, Opera and harbour.
Disadvantages: No restaurant, not cheap.

...appeals to you, then the Harbourside Apartments is definitely the place to book. Sydney is an amazing place. It swarms, it bustles, it throbs with vibrancy. It is without doubt a must-see place. But if you prefer to escape the crowds (and the city noise) at night, then North Sydney - just a few minutes away across the harbour - is the ideal place to stay. Sydney's transport system is excellent, and the ferry services are first-class - better than ...
...do you get at the Harbourside Apartments? Well, there are studios, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom flats to choose from. All the 2-bedroom flats have views over the harbour - and the higher the floor you are on, the better the view (from memory, I think there are about 14 floors). Each apartment is very well equipped, including cable TV, CD player (and fluffy bathrobes). They have a daily maid service. The website (www.harboursideapartments.com.au) describes ...

On The Rocks?

Advantages: Unsurpassed Location, Period Features, Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: No Air-conditioning

...January 1788, he was on the verge of establishing the farthest outpost the British Empire had ever seen. Having surveyed the shoreline, he quickly decided upon a suitable area for a settlement, and his crew and convict charges disembarked at a sheltered, rocky area, beneath the site of the present day Harbour Bridge. In time, this area would become known as 'The Rocks'. In the century that followed, the early settlement grew into a village, initially ...
...however, eventually transforming itself into the massive metropolis we now know as Sydney. The frailty of the early settlement made hardiness and intrepidity essential, and many convicts died long before any prospect of emancipation. Those who survived, however, crafted the foundations upon which a great city was built, and many of their achievements are still very much in evidence to this day. THE ROCKS: Sydney's earliest colonial buildings were ...

Good Value, Comfortable, excellent location

Advantages: Cheap but very cheerful
Disadvantages: rooms are quite small

...said, it is also a Best Western Hotel. Our room was small, but very comfortable and kame with a full-size fridge, microwave, kettle, sink and crockery. Tea and coffee making facilities were refreshed every day and the sheets were always very clean. The shower was excellent also. The hotel has an indoor pool and small gym in the basement and the reception staff were friendly. Don\'t go expecting that your bags will be carried to your room or you\'ll ...
...brisk 10-15 minute walk to Darling Harbour or a short bus/train ride to Circular Quay from Central station which is a 5 minute walk away. For eating out, I would recommend a very short walk around the corner to Glebe Point Road which is filled with every different type of restaurant you could wish for - I would recommend the Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Saigon. The hotel is opposite the Broadway shopping mall which has a supermarket and plethora ...

Not the best

Advantages: It was ok
Disadvantages: Impolite, rude and bad mannered staff, not the best hostel regards to the quality.

...arriving in Sydney to return home as I had received some bad news regarding two of my family members. So we rearranged a number of our plans to ensure we could get a flight earlier and so that we could still do everything we wanted to. We booked ourselves into Home using an online website which we had used before and that generally is cheaper than other comparison websites and cheaper than going directly to the hotel/hostel. We arrived in Sydney ...
...around the corner to get to the hostel. The location of the hostel wasnt fantastic, but it was around from Central Station and it it was only a short walk into the city centre which was useful and meant we didnt have to spend money on public transport. On arrival at the hostel - it didnt look much from the outside, but I was openminded. The BOY who served me was an idiot - I believe he was also a backpacker as we saw him around the hostel on his ...
