Great location to explore Sydney Advantages: Location, Large Rooms, Great Views Disadvantages: Very Pricey, Restaurant and Room Service Expensive I stayed at this hotel whilst on a round the world trip in October. The Sheraton Darling Harbour is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour from the airport depending on traffic, we had transfers included in our holiday so im not sure how much a cab would cost, but id imagine they have set tariffs from the airport to Sydney itself. This hotel is in a great location just outside the city centre, within 5 minutes walking distance and is situated directly ... ...situated a very short walk away if you didnt fancy the 5 minute walk into the centre. The rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated. There is a daily maid service and I found all staff to be courteous and polite. The bathroom was large, clean and well maintained. There is no pool at this hotel which was a shame, but there is a gym and a nice restaurant located off the main foyer. Sydney Harbour Marriott Advantages: 2 min walk to Circular Quay, great views of Opera House & Bridge Disadvantages: None, would definately stay there again on my next visit ...a good view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Nice pool and well-equipped gym in the hotel, but the attractions of Sydney don't leave much time to take advantage of them! Star City Casino/Hotel Advantages: Brilliant View, close to city Disadvantages: Very expensive....not worth the money ...splash out and stay at Star City.....which is right in the heart of Darling Harbour in the city. After arriving at the airport we had our first bad experience in that they make you PAY for the airport Shuttle bus...not just any shuttle bus, the actual star city one! So they make their guests pay to get to the hotel....In my opinion, when you pay such high prices to stay somewhere nice, you would think the shuttle bus is part of the service! So ... ...hotel only to find they CHARGE their own guests $40 per NIGHT to park at the hotel....yes the hotel that you are a guest at and have paid $300+ per NIGHT to stay at! For these prices, you would expect a really nice room, we stayed there for 4 nights so it wasn't cheap and to be honest, the room we had was no different from a Travelodge room..it was very ordinary! You soon realise that you are paying for the view and the proximity to the city. The Saville 2 Bond Street Hotel, Sydney Advantages: Right in the centre of the action Disadvantages: No real disadvantages. Stayed at the Saville in April 2007. I had heard mixed reports about it so was a bit apprehensive. The studio apartment was very well equipped with washer & dryer, dishwasher, microwave, full oven & grill and 2 TV's as well as DVD player and hi-fi. The lighting was a bit low especially in the bathroom, but on the whole the room was very comfortable and elegantly decorated It was Easter weekend and there was quite a lot of noise on the first night ... ...no problems. The staff were polite but a little distant, and the concierge although helpful was a bit unforthcoming with information. We had to push him for more details than he seemed prepared to give. The location is great, right in the centre on George Street, the main drag up to Circular Quay and the Rocks, and just off the main shopping area. Also about 10 mins walk to Darling Harbour where all the restaurants are. We paid about £480 for ... How to backpack in style. Advantages: A perfect place to start your time in Australia!!!! Disadvantages: None ...I ended up staying at Wake Up for 3 months and had the best time. The staff were brilliant and always willing to help whether its finding a job, apartment, tourist advice or providing entertainment. The rooms are bright and clean and the bathrooms were always perfect. You can book double rooms, triple or rooms for up to 6 people.The food was fine with a wide range of options and the drinks cheap - very cheap. The bar always had different things going ... ...the staff would do anything to accommodate. My 3 months at Wake Up were exactly what I needed to set me up the the rest of my time in Sydney. I made some amazing friends and we always went back to the Side Bar for a fun night out. ...
