Travel..Dodge! Sydney Australia hotels. Advantages: Location and proximity to centre. Disadvantages: Everything about this hotel services. After Traveling around Australia for Months I have stayed in many hotels across the East Coast as you will discover in my Reviews. As more and more of us are traveling to Australia, I think its useful to see what are hotels we are assured of, are actually what we are getting after thousands of miles of traveling to our dream destination. We had four days in Sydney and booked here! what a mistake. We arrived at the Hotel after traveling from Bribane 2-hours away. We were very tired and wanted to get some sleep after traveling from 4-am we needed a little sleep. Our hotel reservations were to check in early, but to our dismay they didn't acknowledge that and said we were not allowed to check in till 3pm. Novotel Sydney Darling Harbour Advantages: Great location & Proximity to Darling Harbour nightlife & Monorail. Disadvantages: No view of the bridge or opera house. Have stayed at this hotel on 2 occasions & was very impressed, The consierge has all the information you could need & can make bookings for you at very short notice, The staff are all very helpful & the rooms appear to be well maintained. The food is of a very good standard & international. Most of the rooms to the front have good views although you probably wouldnt spend too much time there as there is so much to do in Sydney. Great stay in a Sofitel Advantages: Lovley room, great value room service, central location Disadvantages: Bath was to small, Price ...hotel break away in the Sofitel for four nights as our Christmas present -------------------Our arrival-------------------- We arrived into Sydney from Bali, but arrived at the domestic terminal as we changed at Darwin in the early hours of the morning. We jumped in a taxi straight outside the airport. Taxis appeared to be plentiful which can be rare at airports sometimes. The taxi driver instantly offered us two routes to get to the hotel. These ... ...in any hotel room. In Sofitel rooms you slept with a duvet underneath you as well as on top. This helps make it extra comfy. One thing I also find in hotels is that you don't always get enough pillows and have to call and wait a long time to get a couple of extra ones, However the extra pillows were there waiting for us in the wardrobe upon arrival. Star City Casino/Hotel Advantages: Brilliant View, close to city Disadvantages: Very expensive....not worth the money ...splash out and stay at Star City.....which is right in the heart of Darling Harbour in the city. After arriving at the airport we had our first bad experience in that they make you PAY for the airport Shuttle bus...not just any shuttle bus, the actual star city one! So they make their guests pay to get to the hotel....In my opinion, when you pay such high prices to stay somewhere nice, you would think the shuttle bus is part of the service! So ... ...hotel only to find they CHARGE their own guests $40 per NIGHT to park at the hotel....yes the hotel that you are a guest at and have paid $300+ per NIGHT to stay at! For these prices, you would expect a really nice room, we stayed there for 4 nights so it wasn't cheap and to be honest, the room we had was no different from a Travelodge room..it was very ordinary! Go to Sydney, Stay at the InterContinental Advantages: Luxurious rooms, great views, helpful staff, great location Disadvantages: Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. ...useful. Breakfast at the hotel is nice but expensive. Alternatively walk down the hill to Circular Quay and have a full English at one of the Al Fresco cafes, before going for a cruise around Port Jackson, or wherever your fancy takes you. Dinner at the InterContinental is also not cheap, but very good, seafood, steaks, etc., served with a smile, and any quirky extras you may require (Heinz Ketchup, English Mustard, etc.). The hotel could not have been more helpful with hairdos, bouquets, laundry, taxis, organising the reception, etc. But to put it into perspective, we are going back to Sydney in July, and will be staying at the InterContinental.
