We visited Symi 3 years ago when we decided to go ISLAND HOPPING with the Fountain Travel Club. The Quatro Fontanas.

We had booked a fantastic deal with First Choice. Flight to Rhodes with two weeks accomadation at Lindos for £126 per person for two weeks.

We spent the first 3 nights at Lindos, which coincided with England being knocked out of the European Cup on penalties, very quiet next day around the pool.

After the 3 nights the four of us boarded the local Bus to Rhodes town to catch
the Ferry to Symi, purchasing the tickets at the Harbour Booth,we were able to put our cases on board and went for something to Eat at Rhodes Market.

My sister in law had booked the accomadation in Symi thru the symivisitor web site. Two rooms in a Villa for 25 Euros a night per room.

On arrival we were met at the quay by a Very friendly young girl from Symivisitor. She had organised a Taxi to take us up to the top of the Town which is extremely steep and high. She motored ahead on her scooter.

She met us at the top and guided us through the laberinth of alleys and steps, rucksacks would have been better than cases.

We suddenly emerged into the court yard of a Neoclassical Villa there are many perched on the side of the town. There was a central Salon with a basket containing 9 keys. She grabbed two and showed us to the rooms. Simply furnished but with bathrooms. And balconies overlooking the Harbour, IDYLIC.

"If you dont like the rooms feel free to swap about, the other room keys are in the Basket, you are the only 4 staying at the moment." and away she went. "Oh by the way Pay us before you go" she shouted back.

My brother said we could meet the next boat and hire rooms out, we laughed.

Next was the important job, lets go for a drink. Rob and Roz had been two years before so off we went to Yannis Bar to see if they remembered them.

There is a stair case that climbs all the Way up from the Harbour to the Top of the Twon, is is called the KALI STRATA the Big Staircase.

Anyway if you do visit and climb it about three quarters of the way up near a little square are two bars, one with white plastic chairs. If you like your MYTHOS cold in ICED Glasses stop there.

We sat down, Yanni came out to some other customers, looked across and with a BIG SMILE he shouts ROBERTO, my brother, needless to say the first drinks were on Yanni.

His was the kind of Bar you would visit for the evening drink or two. Then you would shout to Yanni we are just going for a meal, how much you want. "PAY LATER when you come back" friendly and good business sence.

Symi is like Venice, the days after 10:00 a.m. the harbour side is filled with daytrippers, who are shepherded from the Boat for trips round the Gold Shops and other commercial sites, left to grab a meal in the More expensive Harbour side tavernas then back on the boat. No wonder day trippers get the wrong impression.

we would set off over the top to a quite beach with Cheap taverna only 25 mins walk.

For a tour around the Island I would reccomend the Boat trip, get there early to get the best spot on the boat, Just in front where you can lay down.

You visit 3 or 4 lovely beaches, and a monestary. The crewe do one of the Best Boat Bar b Q's I have had. Plenty of time for swimming in acqua marine waters. Diving off Boat Etc.

Dining out was excellent, Large King Fish steaks cut from the fish in front of your eyes. They even had a Donkey come in one night as it was his birthday. What would enviromental health say to that. Over there no problem, all just sang happy birthday to the Donkey.

we did climb the KALA STRATA a couple of times, but if you dont fancy it , there is a little bus that runs from the Harbour over the Top to the little beach I mentioned.

Or a Taxi for 4 was 2 euros.

The view from the room Balcony was stunning, How they Turn such Large Ships around in such a small Harbour is amazing.

The last night on Symi fell in with Greece Winning their Semi-Final, not much sleep that night with Dynamite being thrown into the Harbour.

The next morning we visited the Symi Visitor office to pay our bill, such trust, after all they only had aan email address for us.

We bought our ferry tickets for the next leg to TILOS and the EUROPEAN CUP FINAL NIGHT. GREECE v PORTUGAL.

Thats another story.
