I have recently been very lucky to have my flights paid for to Lisbon/Funchal. Unfortunately I am not happy with the airline, even if my flights are being paid for.
Why is it that in the London side (LHR) the TAP staff are friendly and helpful, very helpful. During my trips I have to carry equipment 1mtr 60 in lenght.
During my departure I had no problems and no charges. Come my departure from Funchal or Lisbon, you are ripped off left right and centre. These charges are not very small either. Luckily for me the club paid for the expenses but what a rip off!!
Airlines should make it very clear, if there are charges them they should also apply to what ever end you leave from in the first place. So be aware when carry such long/large/overweight items. You may not pay for it on one end but you sure will at the other end.
Staff could also be a bit more friendlier (Portugal side) to customers. Especially those that fly very often.
