I have been shopping at TX MAXX for several years and think it is very good. The best one is situated in Sunderland. I think it opened in Sunderland a couple of years ago and the goods are displayed very well. Whenever I visit a new town I will always look for a TK Maxx. I particularly like the ones in Wallisdown (Poole) and Salisbury. I have bought lots of designer T-shirts for adults and children (just bought a brilliant Duffer T-shirt for my 8 yrs old grandson - what a bargain at £5! Also bought lots of designer clothes for work and now have a very large collection that didn't cost the earth! I buy the majority of my underwear there! Why pay £25 for a bra when I need only pay £6 or £7? Why pay £15 for a pair of designer pants when I can pay £2.99? I also buy lots of towels and bedding there. The only thing I don't like is having to go through the clearance rails although sometimes it is worth the effort to get a designer jacket for a mere £8!

Since the above review, a new TKM shop has opened at Castlepoint, Bournemouth. Various friends had been telling me fantastic stories about the bargains they had bought and I just couldn't wait to get my hands on the rails! Castlepoint
is a new retail shopping outlet and it has become so popular in the first few days of opening that trying to park is an absolute nightmare. But I had heard about this new TKM shop and I just had to see it for myself.
Would it be like my friends had said?
Would it have any fantastic bargains?
Would all the bargains be gone by the time I got there?
On my first visit, I had to wait in an enormous traffic jam and my husband was getting quite irritated - he hates traffic jams but, fortunately for me, he is a lover of TKM too!
At last! We have parked the car (albeit at the furthest point away from TKM but, what the hell, we have parked and I could run (if I had the energy) to my favourite shop!
The shop is very well laid out and looks more like a department store. You can actually look along the rails and find the right size! It was wonderful to see the full range of scarves, hats and gloves - all neatly arranged by colour and so easily accessible. Made a great difference to my usual routine of having to literally pull hangars along the rails to try and find a decent item of clothing. (What, size 8 in amongst size 16's! Oh, no!).
The household section is absolutely fantastic - it is like Aladdin's Cave (or I suppose as I would imagine this cave to be like!). It has so many unusual types of ornaments from all parts of the world and very good displays of household goods:-
Wooden ones Glass ones Fabric ones Metal ones etc. etc. Lots of gorgeous towels, bedding and absolutely fantastic range of cushions (to die for!).
I was like a little kid in a toy shop - I want that, and that, and that and that!!
Now then, for years I have been wanting a nice duffle coat. I know, I know, they were in fashion in the 70's but, honestly, they are coming back in - just look in the boutiques!!
Glancing along the coat rails, what do I spy but a wonderful brown herringbone design duffle (and it is made in Britain too). I hurriedly push the other coats aside - I just couldn't believe my eyes. Here was exactly what I had been looking for and they had it in my size! It was extremely "well finished" and the original price was £199 and TKM's price was £49!!!!!!! Well, guess what I did???? Yes, yes, yes, I bought it.
Duffle coat on arm, on to the glove section. Such an array of gloves - how could I choose? Hard though it was, I bought a beautiful pair of brown leather/suede gloves for just £7.99. The upper part is made of suede and the bottom part (palm etc) made of very fine leather. What a bargain.
Now onto the scarf section - how on earth do I chose from all these beiges/browns? Difficult, I know but I bought a beautiful brown chenille scarf with tassles for only £6.99 (have seen similar in boutiques for about £30-£40).
My husband bought a beige Marlborough jumper for just £14.99 (original price approxim £70-£80).
We both came out of this shop with grins from ear to ear! I just love this particular branch. I guess because it is new then it has the good stock but, hey man, who cares! Bargains are there to be had! If you live in the Dorset area, then give yourself a treat and go to Castlepoint and save yourself some money.
Happy shopping, all you TKM fans.
31 December 2003 =============== For all of you who have a TKM store at hand - you MUST get there now - sale time and what a sale! One of my local TKM shops (Castlepoint, Bournemouth) has fantastic bedding bargains - throwover quilts for approximately £60 (worth up to £200 normally - seen similar in a "brand" store and, goodness to me, cost in the sale was just under £200). Bought more towels at knock down prices - beautiful luxury bath towels for a mere £5 and bought a couple of dark towels for the dogs at a mere £3 each! What else did I buy? Let me think (bought so much in the sales it is hard to remember). Lovely lavender room/linen spray for £2 - very strong. Underwear - well, buy most of it here - got knickers for £1, £2 - normal retail prices usually £5+. Oh, and got a Playtex bra for £3 (normal price £25). Also saw some fantastic Ralph Lauren jeans at a mere £10 but, unfortunately, they were not my size! So ladies and gents, get down to your TKM store and get those bargains.
***8 March 2004 update*** ================= Went shopping in TKM over the weekend and these are the fantastic bargains I bought:-
* Richardson wood block of 5 knives £4.99 (they are brilliantly sharp)
Duffer St George T-shirts for my grandsons at £7 each
I've never been in one of these, but it sounds like a good shop !

I detest shopping in TKMaxx, any time I go into a store it is like a jumble sale. Nothing is in order and you find the same thing in 3 different places. Good op though! emma x

I like browsing through but don't really buy a lot of stuff! I get mostly perfumes; they're so cheap compared to say, Boots! x
