~*~*~TLH LEISURE RESORT~*~*~
The business was originally established in 1947 by Joyce and Cifford Murell. Still owned by the family, there are now 4 hotels spread across 7 acres. The hotel complex offers 440 en suite rooms and 29 self catering units. Each hotel specialises in something different, from functions to conferences and family breaks to dancing holidays. ~*~*~LOCATION~*~*~
The hotels are located on a triangular site in the middle of Belgrave road, Chestnut Avenue and Falkland road. The site is set behind Torre Abbey and a 5 minute walk to Torquay's sandy beach.
~*~*~HOTELS~*~*~
-Toorak; The 3 star hotel has 92
en-suite bedrooms. It has an award winning resturant with 2 RAC Dining Awards, the Conway Bar and Terrace and the Chatsworth Suite. There is also Buckingham lounge with comfortable sofas to relax in. The rooms are relatively large (the 3 I have been in were anyway) with a few leading onto a veranda, they are clean and well decorated. The service is second to none and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
-Carlton; The 3 star hotel has 83 en-suite bedrooms and 16 self catering apartments. It has a restaurant, the Riviera Ballroom and the Madison Function suite. The lobby in this hotel is stunning, it is a circular shape with (I think) marble flooring.
-Derwent; The 2 star hotel has 175 en-suite bedrooms. It has the '400 cover restaurant', Mediterrania Bar which overlooks the Aztec pool, the Starlight bar and Starlight Ballroom.
-Victoria; The 2 star hotel has 55 en-suite bedrooms plus 10 self catering apartments. It has Alberts Bar which has regular entertainment and is popular with locals, the Alberts Continental Bistro and the Windsor bar.
~*~*~LEISURE FACILITIES~*~*~
-'Aztec Falls' as it is known is a 25 metre indoor pool there is an additional fun pool alongside. This pool is fab and I have used it a few times. It has an Aztec themed decoration funnily enough.
-Sauna
-Steam room
-Jacuzzi
-2 outdoor pools, with children's pools alongside.
-Aztec Spa. I have had a couple of massages here, it has a Mayan theme and is a perfect place to relax. They offer a wide range of beauty treatments so there is something for everyone. You can also book spa days and treatments here even if you are not staying in any of the hotels.
I visited the Toorak hotel first in 2005 for my works Christmas party, I am a vegetarian and the food served was fantastic, definitely the best meal I ever have tasted. My fiancé had the traditional Christmas dinner and he too found it incredible. My fiancé and I stayed overnight and happened to have been put in a family room, with a double bed and 2 singles. It was huge!
When we started planning our wedding in early 2006, we decided we wanted a civil ceremony in a hotel as our family would all be travelling to the area. I researched on places that were licensed to hold civil ceremonies and the TLH Leisure resort came up. I sent off for a brochure and was amazed with what came in with the package, one of the cheapest we had found. We arranged to have a look around the hotels and decide on which (if any) we would like to hold the wedding and reception in. Each hotel had its good and bad points but we decided we liked the Toorak and the Carlton and found it difficult to decide which we preferred.
We eventually decided on the Toorak and I have to say it was an amazing choice, the wedding planner was fantastic, she helped us plan everything to the tiniest detail. On the day she was excellent, ensuring everything ran to plan, so we didn't have to worry about a thing. The food was fabulous and the whole day went without a hitch. I really don't think I could praise the hotel enough.
