TRH Torrenova , Magaluf

I went with my partner to TRH torrenova in Magaluf at the end of september 2011. I was slightly dubious as what the hotel was like from previous reviews that I have read.

As I arrived we went to the front desk and began to check in. Straight away we was informed that we would need to rent out a deposit box which was 27Euro's for a week as the rooms are very unsafe and to keep the suitcases open or they will be slashed and all valubles to be kept out of the way. This shocked me to say the least thats not the first thing you expect to hear as soon as you walk through reception! The reception looked very spacious and clean and you could see the pool area which looked great.

We got sent on our way to found our rooms so we went into a lift and ive never seen anything so filthy. It smelt of urine and there was all sorts on the floor and all up the walls and it was something you see out of a horror movie so that also wasnt a good first impression.

We finally got to our room and was quite pleasantly suprised! The room was really spacious and had a seperate big bathroom and small kitchen area which consisted of kettle and bits of cutlery. The decoraton is really outdated and it was really run down and old but it was clean and for the price we paid that is all I was botherd about.
Out of the week the sheets and towels weres changed 4 or 5 times which I was really pleased about and nothing got stolen which is the main thing that I was worried about!

The thing that made it defiantly worth the money was the view from the balcony! I have paid for a 5star hotel before and never got a view like it! We was directly over the sea! We sat here every night playing cards and watching the planes and boats it was really lovley and was worth every penny!

The pool area was fantastic there were always pleanty of loungers and there was a little childrens park in the corner and with a pool bar. This again it over looked the sea which was absolutely lovley and breezy! There is supposed to be a sauna and a laundry room but the hotel was so big that after a week I still couldnt find them!

I walked past the cleaners and staff most mornings and smiled but none of them even acknowledged me or smiled so I thought that was abit rude but maybe I am just being picky!

The actual hotel is at the top of a big hill known to the locals as 'cardiac hill' which would be an absolute nightmare if you had a pushchair or was a wheelchair user. It was a killer to go up and they didnt mention anywhere on their website when I booked this so Im glad I never took my young two children as I would of definatly been disappointed! The most positive thing about being at the top of the hill is that its away from all the bars and clubs so that there was hardly any noise at all apart from drunken people coming in from there nights out but I got a good sleep apart from one night which I was pleased about.

I never ate at the resturant as I went self catering so I cant comment on the resturant food but it smelt good when we walked past in the morning!

Overall I would say that for a cheap hotel i got what I paid for - an average room but with lovley sea view rooms for half the cost of some hotels. I wouldnt recommend this for wheelchair users, older people or people with young children and I would think that in peak seaon being quite close to central magaluf that you would get alot of young people staying here.
