This hotel is in a very central place, quite possible one of the best locations if you want to see the city. It is situated in the old town, close to the Castillio Santa Barbara (the main castle), The port, Cathedral. Church of Santa Maria, town hall and museums. Its also about a 2 minute walk away from the beach, Playa de Postiguet. Generally, the location is very good, but there are a couple of draw backs. Firstly, the distance from the train station if you're planning on visiting the local area. It will take about 20 minutes to walk there, however, you can easily catch a bus. Secondly, the noise. Now generally in Alicante, no matter what hotel you stay in you will get general noise from the streets. However, this hotel is located on the edge an area called 'El Barrio', one of the most popular areas for nightlife. The first time we stayed there, we had no problems (because our room wasn't on the street, but I'll talk about that later) but the second time, we noticed quite a bit of noise at night from people walking home drunk. If you're planning on experiencing the nightlife yourself, this won't be a problem, but if you're a light sleeper, I would try and request a room away from the streets.
The rooms in the hotel were very comfy, with basic facilities. They have a TV with plenty of channels (although mainly in Spanish), Mini bar, en suite bathroom etc. The first room we stayed in did not have a balcony, and was not on the street, in fact the view from our window was a wall. However, the second time we visited we had a balcony on the 4th floors with beautiful views of the old town and the castle. The rooms were very clean, and i defiantly enjoyed them. The hotel doesn't really have any facilities, however, everything you could need is on your doorstep.
Breakfast was included in our stay, so I can't comment on the price, however it was a very nice, typically continental breakfast, with cheese and meats, fruit, pastries and cereal. The breakfast staff, as with all the staff, were very friendly and were happy to get you anything else you needed. The hotel does not have a restaurant, however if you would like to order food (and don't speak Spanish) the hotel staff are happy to phone a local delivery restaurant on your behalf to order food. If you want to eat out, you are spoiled for choice in this area of the city. If you would like to experience traditional Spanish food, take a walk through the old town. If you want something less adventurous, walk across the front for a whole host of restaurants serving pizza, pasta, meat and fish. I recommend the Chinese restaurant next to the hotel, its very nice and very cheap, however I don't think it opens until quite late.
In Alicante I have stayed in two hotels, this one, and the Goya hotel. Although this one is a bit more expensive, I would defiantly recommend it over Goya. It will cost you between 15 and 20 euros to get to this hotel from Alicante Airport by taxi (10-15 minutes), and 1euro on the bus, which will drop you off a couple of minutes away from the hotel. (30-40 minutes). I wouldn't recommend this hotel for long holidays or families, but if you're staying for a weekend or short break, it is ideal.
