On the day of check-in I arrived at The Table Bay Hotel at 12pm so was 2 hours early for check-in, the reception staff remembered both me and my partner and said they were able to check us in earlier and that they had prepared a magnificent room for our stay. Check-in was as you would expect names and addresses were required and a signature against your keycard the receptionist then stated he would show us to our room personally.
The reception area is vast and contains an escalator entrance to the business centre, rooms and also into the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront shopping centre. Next to the escalator are 4 elevators to take you to the 329 rooms located in the hotel.
****The Rooms**** 329 Rooms in total 2 Presedential Suites 1 Superior Suite 2 Executive Suites 13 Standard Suites 68 Luxury Rooms 239 Standard Twin Rooms 4 Paraplegic Rooms
We entered our room which was a Luxury Room and to the immediate left was out bathroom it had a separate walk-in shower, separate toilet with lockable door (handy for privacy) a bath, heated towel rails and a large Marble Vanity Unit with hairdryer. There were plenty of luxurious fluffy white towels and these were replaced daily, along with exclusive complimentary toiletries including shower gel, shampoo, shower cap and soap.
Next to the bathroom was the mini bar which was complete with fully stocked fridge, corkscrew, ice bucket which is filled up each evening, complimentary water, coffee making facilities and other bar amenities.
Then you walk into the spacious area that is the actual sleeping area with a King Size bed big enough to sleep 4 adults, walk in wardrobe with overhead storage, 4 drawers and a digital safe set to your own combination, hanging in the wardrobe was 2 bathrobes and slippers for personal use. There is also a coloured television with remote control with drawers underneath for additional storage. Beside each side of the bed is a bed side table with lamp. A writing desk is standard as is the telephone with direct line and fax with direct line and modem.
The rooms are attended to twice a day once in the morning to replace towels and to make up the bed and once in the evening to turn down the bed, fill the ice bucket and this was one of my favourite parts to staying at this hotel was when they turned down the bed, the placed a small bag with chocolate covered shortbread balls on the pillow, the dressing gown was folded and placed on the pillow with rose petals and next to the bed was a small cloth with the slippers on and more rose petals the television guide was open on the days viewing at the end of the bed with the remote control placed on top this was amazing.
We had a room with the view of Table Mountain and the working harbour it was a truly magnificent view.
****Eating**** I did not sample any of the food at this particular hotel, due to the fact that there were so many choices of places to eat in the harbour that we tended to eat out.
The Atlantic Restaurant was open for Lunch and Dinner. The Conservatory serving breakfast and a la carte. The Lounge which offered tea, light snacks and drinks. The Conservatory Bar is the one place I did experience for a night cap and they even had the nuts served in silver service along with your refreshments. There is a wide range of cocktails and wine and we were able to purchase a bottle of wine from the bar and take it up to our room and they provided a wine cooler for us to take it up and also offered to take it up to our room for us.****Guest Services**** Outside salt-water pool constantly heated to 22 degrees, there is also a wooden decked area which overlooks the sea and an outdoor jacuzzi that is covered but didnt feel that heated! There is also a seating area to have pool side refreshments from the poolside bar.
There is a modern gymnasium which believe it or not we did visit on one occassion and it contained all the modern cardio-vascular equipment including a stepper, exercise bike, running machine and cross trainer. There is a gym ball and weight training equipment and towels are provided for use in the gym and also a water fountain.
The health spa is located next to the gymnasium and offers a wide range of services to guests unfortunately I did not have the chance of making use of this service! I would of loved a massage, manicure, facial etc.......
There is a business centre which can be used by all guests, the services do carry an additional charge dependent on what you use in the business centre. -Secretarial Facilities are available -Internet and email -Faxing -Photocopying -Menu printing -Flower Arrangements -Travel Desk -Foreign exchange -Car Rental -3 meeting rooms/ offices for hire
Due to me booking the wrong time for the flights back home I did have to make use of this service to access my email and this cost approximately £5 for half an hour but allowed me to use the internet facilities to contact the airline and receive my email confirmation.
We also made use of the Travel Desk during our stay and we were guided through the process of going on a tour, we had an idea of what we wanted to see but did not know what the best way to see it would be. Anyways we decided on using a tour company known as Springbok Atlas and we were on a tour with approximately 3 other couples where we were collected from our hotel and driven to Table Mountain for a half day tour, they also built in some additional sightseeing to fill up the space when we had left Table Mountain. We also booked on an additional tour of the Winelands which was a whole day and we found them to be quite reasonably priced but again on top of the actual tour we had to tip the guide so it worked out more that we expected but never the less at least we got to do some sightseeing and it was all booked and arrange by the hotel free of charge.
I could not fault this hotel in anyway, the staff we always helpful and would always go out of their way to help you.
The Table Bay Hotel is part of Sun International and all I can do is highly commend this hotel.
As I am a travel agent I get discounted rates and this only cost me £31 per person a night so it was a real bargain as I have seen prices on needahotel.com for £855 for 5 nights per person which includes the hot buffet breakfast whic was not included in my rate.

Our holiday did not start off well with BA failing to put our luggage on the plane at heathrow so on arrival at Cape Town airport we found ourselves getting into our hire car with little more than our passports! The hotel was an easy drive from the airport with a fantastic view of the hotel front as you turn into the driveway.

The location of the hotel makes it ideal for evening strolls along the waterfront which is bustling with people and very safe. Likewise it is a great base for daytime exploring.

Advantages: Safe location Disadvantages: No indoor swimming pool (that's all I can think of!)
A lovely hotel, in a great location. That sums it up!
In the UK it would be a 4*, but you you are in South Africa. Little things are different - for example you don't get fresh toiletries upon arrival, you will have half-full bottles and they only get replaced when they are completely empty. Nothing major, but I notice things like that!

If you want to go for a romantic holiday you need to book the honeymoon suites. We stayed in a normal room, and they have two beds pushed together with single bed linen on each so tightly folded that you struggle to get it out. It's just not the same as having a double bed. ...

...2004 and stayed at the Table Bay Hotel in Cape Town for part of their honeymoon. Such was their delight with the hotel they returned there in 2007 and invited us to go with them. We had heard about the hotel from them but it was even better in reality. 5* plus really cannot describe the excellent service we were given during our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff were superb and all the facilities out of this world. I would 200% recommend ...

1. Table Mountain.
Table Mountain is the best way to see what CapeTown has to offer and the quickest and easiest way is via cable car and it is just a 15 minute drive from the city centre. This was the first sight seeing tour that we booked and we were certainly not disappointed as our tour guide pointed out the many sights that we could see during our trip, however Table Mountain can be hit or miss you really need to go on good day or your view will be impaired.
The Table Mountain website is ideal for daily forecasts and prices, the site will also advise if the cable car is closed due to any bad weather.
2. Victoria and Alfred Waterfront
When planning our visit to CapeTown we had decided to split our accommodation finishing with a few nights on the Waterfront staying at the TableBayHotel.
