Well Table Mountain is definately a must see in Cape Town.

The weather can be difficult to perceive as it changes very quickly and the mountain tends to be surrounded by a lot of low cloud. Fortunately the day that I was ascending the mountain was perfectly clear.

Advantages: Beautiful Disadvantages: Prone to being covered in low cloud
...to catch a glimpse of table mountain when mother nature has lifted the cloth it is a beautiful sight you will never forget. In November 2001 I was flying in to Capetown for a 9:30am arrival. The sun was shining bright and we must have had a tail wind because we were too early to land. A kindly pilot took the opportunity to fly low right round Table mountain. The view from the air allowed us to get our bearings. You could clearly see Table bay, False ... ...shore. This was to be the last clear day for another week. I was due to abseil from the the top off the mountain but had to wait for mother natures approval. The following week the cloth was lifted and off we went. The ride in the cablecar was expensive by South African standards (can't remember exactly) but well worthwhile in the end. The cable cars take one complete revolution on the way to the top so there is not moving from side to side to see ...

Advantages: Breathtaking views. Exhilarating panoramas and it'll still be there for a while yet. Disadvantages: If it's cloudy don't go. You'll see nothing and it can be dangerous.
...Tower to mention a few. Table Mountain in Cape Town is another. I was fortunate enough to live in South Africa for 18 months in the early 90's whilst I was backpacking. I ended up working on Greenmarket Square for about 6 months and no matter how fed up I got or hungover I was in the morning going to work, whenever I caught sight of Table Mountain with the cloud seeming to fall down it's face like a tablecloth, I cheered up! No other view has ever ... ...coastline and seeing the 1086m Table Mountian for the first time? Awesome! My first trip to the top was by cable car with some friends on Xmas Day. We took a picnic and some wine, wandered off to a secluded spot overlooking the bay and Robbin Island (Nelson Mandela's prison) and tucked in. Most visitors seem content to stay close to the cable car station and restaurant (in 93-4 there was a small eatery at the top and nothing else) but there were ...

Advantages: beautiful; scenic; a highligt to any trip to South Africa Disadvantages: NONE
Table Mountain is one of the Jewels in South Africa's Western Cape. It takes its name from the simple fact that on most days the mountain top, which is relatively flat, is covered in a thin layer of clouds which creates the table-like effect.
The Mountain looks down upon the city of Cape Town which surrounds it. All this information, however, can easily be found on any other website. I would like to describe, briefly, my Table Mountain experience. ... ...upon the most southern tip of Africa and not only marvel at the beautiful view but also, quite remarkably, acknowledge that you are staring down upon a point in the distance where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, separating, arguably, the Western World from its Eastern counterpart - this is a truly remarkable experience. ...

Advantages: Worth it when you get to the top Disadvantages: Bloody hard climb!
Having taken the cable car up several years ago, every time I have been to Cape Town since (yearly) I have talked about climbing it, but never actually got round to it. Now, six months since I quit smoking and started exercising, there were no more excuses so off we went. You drive up to the cable car station, and then park somewhere in that area (you'll be grateful you did when you get back down!) Walk about 10 minutes further up the road and you'll ... ...the mountain. There are steps, of a sort, all the way up the mountain, and the track is easy to follow with no danger of getting lost. However, I was not prepared for how tough the climb would be. We set off at about 10.30am and 25 degrees and it only got hotter. For about the first hour and 15mins there was no shade whatsoever, and, being slightly disorganised we only took 2 small bottles of water. The climb is constant, with no flat areas to catch ...
