Xié Xie or Visit the world highest skyscraper!

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: distance, language

...night, is 50 km from Taipei city and I was told that people shouldn’t speak hardly English and all is written in Chinese characters.

Taipei was waiting with nice weather. I passed a gate, which checked my temperature by a calorimeter camera, a caveat against SARS. At the customs clearance I got a Visa for 1 month for free and near the exit was tourist information. There I was offered a free half-day sight seeing tour and I was supplied ...
...with the half-day sightseeing tour. Taipei is a western stile modern city despite of the Chinese characters and the many motorbikes. At first we were visiting the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall (picture above).

Chiang Kai Shek was a Chinese General, who was elected president of China. In 1945 he fled the Chinese mainland from the Communists with another 1, 5 Mio devotees to the isle of Taiwan. There he reigned for more than 25 years ... more

capital of nightlife

Advantages: fun and cheap
Disadvantages: hot and sticky

You'll never feel bored in Taipei as there're so much going on. OK, the weather could be sticky and hot but you could always find a cafe or tea room with air-conditioning. Or just dive in a big department in Chun-Shou East Road and enjoy your shopping. Food in Taipei is fantastic and cheap. You could find any kind of food you want in Taipei easily. Thai, Indian, Japanese, American, Germany, French and of couse Chinese. The most great time to explore ...

Or you could go to the KTV for a great fun time, singing with your friends. KTV is the most popular activity among people in Taipei. Go shopping in the evening is also very popular for girls. ...

Don't miss National Palace Museum

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

If you happen to be in Taipei, don't miss out the chance to visit one of the best museum in the world - The National Palace Museum. It houses the world's largest collection of priceless Chinese art treasures, one which spans China's nearly 5,000-year history. Most of the museum's 620,000 art objects were part of the Chinese imperial collection, which began over 1,000 years ago in the early Sung dynasty. It's about 30 minutes from the city center ...

Does its job

Advantages: Erm, it's a major airport
Disadvantages: Read below

Well, firstly, this is in the wrong catergory. Thre are two airports serving Taipei, the one mentioned above, and the major one named TPE. Make sure you know which one you'll be flying into. TAY is in the middle of the city and has small jets serving Taiwan and other close locations. TPE has the big jets serving the rest of the world. Right, having got that out of the way, some facts. Firstly, before anyone complains, this willo be a short opinion. This is due mainly to the lack of facilities at the airport. Arrival: I arrived at TPE from Singapore on Singapore Airlines. I'd paid £1000 for a business class flight from singapore. The economy fare was pretty much the same. If you are planning to fly to TPE, make sure it's a consolidated fare. If you buy any tickets outside of the originating country in SEA (south east asia) you will ...

Review of Taipei - Sungshan, Taiwan (TAY)

An alright experience...

Advantages: Good value, Bi-lingual crew, Lots of fancy extras
Disadvantages: Regular delays, Disappointing Economy Class, Lack of inflight entertainment

Before using EVA Air, I had used Thai Airways on two occasions and loved the experience. For this particular trip, EVA Air had come up as a cheaper option by far, so I had little choice. Internet reviews seemed pretty good so I was happy to put them to the test. We checked in swiftly for our flight at Terminal 3 at Heathrow. The aircraft was en-route to Taipei in Taiwan and would stop stop first in Bangkok (about 11 hours to Thailand). We were travelling Economy class unfortunately. EVA offers four classes on its Jumbos and we were in the lowest of the lot. Our flight was due to leave at 9.30pm, but it wasn't until 9.40pm that we were called for boarding. Upon arriving at the gate, we queued for about half an hour. It was complete chaos and everybody inm the queue was moaning. Who can blame them when EVA's handling agent had not ...

CHEAP AND DIRECT flights to Bangkok from Heathrow

Advantages: Direct, clean and efficient
Disadvantages: Would love to have slightly bigger seats

before which have included 4.5hr plus stop-overs. So as a preference I would rather be in the plane than the Airport. With the price being so cheap (£458 inc tax), I suppose that many people could afford to go first class for the same price that you would pay in economy with other airlines. Although again a little robotic. The staff were friendly, efficient and spoke perfect English. I'm sure there's a factory in Taiwan somewhere that makes them. I was waiting for one of them to malfunction and go berserk, but to my major disappointment it never happened. I guess these long flights play with your mind! As Bangkok is the stopover for this flight, it later goes on to Taiwan. So if you are planning to go to Taipei from London/Bangkok, I would recommend this service. I'm not planning on returning to this part of SE Asia ...
