In July 2000, I spent two weeks in the resort of Tamariu, about 100km north of Barcelona on the Costa Brava. After an early start - 3.30 in the morning, we flew British Airways from Heathrow to Barcelona. When we arrived at Barcelona, the car hire process was long and having to stand in a queue for an hour was frustating. The problems outside were worse however, Barcelona being one of the most confusing cities i've ever been to, but still, i liked the place. When we finally arrived in Tamariu, I was fairly impressed with the apartments, after being used to 1 bedroom apartments, this was a new experience, the apartments Sol Pin, used by The Travel Club of Upminster in Britain each had 2 bedrooms, a 2 toilets and a seperate living area. The pool was big, and had a terraced area where you could sit and sunbath. This probably made up for the lack of genuine sandy beaches, I came across only 1, at Aigua Blava. Still, there was alot to do in and around the area. I spent a day taking in Barcelona, which is somewhere you must go to, and another day in the nearby town of Girona, famous for bull fights, although there was plenty to do otherwise, and there was an incredible range of ice cream flavours. Staying on the coasts, the resorts of Llafranc and Calella de Palafrugell were good to look around in the evening, and both had excellent Mini-Golf courses, if that matters, which it does to me. One thing lacking from the Costa Brava was good restaurants, bud my advice for that is to go inland. Personally, the best restaurants i've been to were in the Algarve. Spain is also alot cheaper than France, but more expensive than Portugal (for an in depth opinion on the Algarve, see my opinion Lagos: Portugal) The weather was excellent, no rain and very warm, but apparently we were very lucky with this. After spending an excellent two weeks in the Costa Brava, which does not suffer as much from overcrowding in the summer as the Costa del Sol and the Algarve, we then battled with the Barcelona traffic again. Overall I was very pleased with my two weeks in the Costa Brava.
