The enchanted city of Marrakesh, What a great visit if you are looking for the mystic and mysterious, Marrakesh is a friendly place and it welcomes all its visitors, there is a warm atmosphere in Marrakesh and the sights and smells draw you in, the weather in Marrakesh is good all year and it barely drops below 7 hours of sun even in the winter months, even though the winter nights get very cold so take warm clothing,, you have the extreme hotter months which would be July and August,

Here is a brief summary of what Marrakesh has in store for you,

There are two parts to Marrakesh the Old town and the new town , if you want to get right into the culture of the way of life with the Moroccans then the old town will suit you more than the new town,

The local Language spoken is Arabic; French is a strong second before the English language

The old town is full of narrow streets in which they are lined by many of the locals selling their fresh products and hand crafts, hotels in the old town consists of narrow streets with not many signs and no sign above the hotel door it?s easy to get lost so please take a map till you get used to the areas, don?t let this put you off as its great fun and you get to see a lot you wouldn?t see in the new town,

The Markets in Marrakesh are windy maze like narrow streets and they are full of leather goods, jewelers, footwear, clothes, antique shops and so much more, your one hour shopping trip will turn into many more as the variety, colors and many activities pull you in, haggling is important and you can haggle for the price that suits you, you can get some good deals from this, the more you venture into the markets especially of you go all the way to the back of the market, you will see the workshops, where all the goods are put together mainly by hand ,which is interesting and a good experience

If you do tend to get lost, help is close at hand as you will get approached by many of the locals that will offer you a tour or put you in the right direction, they are friendly and a few Euros from you would be much appreciated,

Marrakesh have many money exchange offices, even though the locals will except sterling and the euro besides their own Dirham currency , the exchange rate is good buying the Dirham and it will be a better option for you if you plan on buying and shopping there, the best one is in the Djamaa El Fna Square

Djamaa El Fna Square is amazing especially after sun fall this is when Marrakesh truly comes alive, from snake charmers, to acrobats, henna tattoo artists, dance shows, and photo?s with monkeys this is where the enchantment kicks in, the smell of roast meats, fish, barbeques and all exotic smells that are being cooked all around you just make a fascinating setting, try and get on one of the many rooftops there and watch the entertainment,

Alcohol is forbidden in the old town so be careful if you do buy some as it is a big offence, make sure its hidden if you take it into the old town, the new town has a off license which shuts by 8pm,

The new town is the modern side of Marrakesh and has the big food chains like Mc Donald?s and pizza hut, and the shopping a lot more luxurious as you can visit miss sixty and other big designer brands, and all the modern hotels reside there, good if you take children as most of the hotels cater with pools and all mod cons for the children, and you can have a nice 10 minutes walk from the new town to the old town. The roads get busy as all traffic use the roads even the horse and carts , which is another option you could use if you dont want to walk ,

All in all Marrakesh is a great destination to experience, if you travel in a small group especially girls do not stay in the alley ways after 12am, if you are out visiting the night life there take a taxi home, which are very accessible also the square can be a feast for pick pockets, beside that Marrakesh is worth the experience
