2. DOWNTOWN / HENRY PLANT MUSEUM
The heart of Tampa is built on a grid system. Most roads are now one way and junctions are controlled by traffic lights. Some streets have been pedestrianised and landscaped. Green historical signs (rather like our Blue plaques) abound recalling such worthies as Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough Riders and a car rally in 1907 to promote the development of roads in the state. Downtown is bounded to the north by I275; to the south by the Channelside district; to the west by the Hillsborough River.
Take a look at the Tampa Theatre on Franklin Street. It is a cinema built in 1926 and brilliantly restored to its former glory. Also try the Tampa Bay History Centre opposite the Convention Centre. It currently has an exhibition of the Everglades – and admission is free.

Advantages: Tampa is in Florida, the sunshine state. Disadvantages: Avoid our rainy season. July - October.
...When we first moved to the states almost 15 years ago, we rented an apartment in Tampa, so that we could explore the area. We had visited the area previously but wanted to be sure that this was right for us.

Advantages: Great Location, Modern Airport, and reasonably quiet Disadvantages: none that I can think of...
...Hi, as a frequent flyer to Florida, I generally have flown into KMCO (Orlando International), however, a couple of years ago I discovered the delights of Tampa, a modern, clean, International standard airport, right on the edge of the City and linked to the major Interstate highways..
Tampa has all the major car rental companies either on site or just off site ( we always use Dollar) which has an airport pickup facility which means within an hour of landing ( usually) we are on the I4 ( Interstate 4) on our way to Central Florida..
Another great benefit of flying into and out of Tampa, is the huge Walmart just a couple of blocks away from the airport ( Walmart are the nice guys who just bought out ASDA Supermarkets here in the UK)...
Walmart is ideally situated for a few hours shopping just before your return flight to the UK...
