Ok, first off I would like to say that I may have an ever so slightly biased point of view due to my ethnicity being half Moroccan, but...Tangier is by far the best city in Morocco. There is so much to do and see and so much culture that you easily become immersed in the city's surrealism. ... Read review

Tangier: City For Dreamers

Advantages: Everything I've mentioned in the review, an affordable, truely unbelievable city.
Disadvantages: Poverty and pollution, try to help out as much as you can.

Ok, first off I would like to say that I may have an ever so slightly biased point of view due to my ethnicity being half Moroccan, but...Tangier is by far the best city in Morocco. There is so much to do and see and so much culture that you easily become immersed in the city's surrealism. For me it is easy to see while so many poets, artists, writers, and musicians have visited and lived in Tangier (like the Rolling Stones, Jack Kerouac, William ...
...This city is like no other, with its beautiful beaches and intoxicating night life, it is hard not to have a good time here. Days can be spent lounging on the beach or bargaining in the casbah for a pair of baboosh or a pretty jellaba. At night one can explore the boulevard as everyone seems to be out for a good time. I recommend visiting the lounge TangerInn, a great little bar with cheap drinking and great company in a location that really en captures ... more

rude awakening?

Advantages: in morocco,
Disadvantages: can be a massive culture shock

after the smooth ferry crossing involving relaxing on the decks, reading, sleeping Tangier was a shock. as soon as you step through customs you will be acosted by people trying to sell you anything and everthing. although some may find this initially intimidating if you are clear they will leave you alone (and ignore all of their horror stories- the trains are not on strike and you will probably not be mugged in the medina) the town its self is worth ...
...first time in morocco make sure you make a beeline for a coffee/ tea shop for some mint tea. very sugary but very yummy. not an amazing amount to do in the evening- no 'english' bars, or many tourists (thank god?!) but it is well worth mooching about and soaking up the moroccan atmosphere before moving somewhere else- fez/ asilah? ...

Hotel and Casino Movenpick, Tangier, Morocco

Advantages: Looks lovely and decor great
Disadvantages: poor food and service in restaurant

About Movenpic hotels: The Movenpic hotels are part of a multi national group of exclusive 5* hotels which began in Swizerland that state their aim as: "Thirteen thousand people, over one hundred professions, and one shared goal: to pamper guests and to live authentic hospitality. Each and every day. " The Movenpic Tangier: From the outside this hotel is quite modern and looks very imposing . It is on the outskirts of Tangier right down the beachfront it is about 10 minutes drive from the main town so it is not really handy for getting to the town for awalk, you would need a taxi. However the setting offers lovely views of the coast, harbour and out to sea.I would think that the way the hotel is built that there would ot be many rooms without a good view. Inside the hotel; It is a very luxurious and expensive hotel ...

Review of Hotel & Casino Mövenpick Tanger, Tanger Nord

World's Apart

Advantages: Different scenery
Disadvantages: Need a guide

We stopped off at Tangier as one of the stopovers on our cruise. If doing the same thing be warned, and they do warn you aboard ship, that when you get off the ship there are a queue of guides that hassle you into letting them be your guide. This is indeed a good idea especially if you want to visit the old Tangiers with it's tiny alleyways. But don't go for the first that approaches. Don't be afraid to decline and keep walking - they will be persistant but just keep walking - we foun dourselves a young morrocan student and was gals to pay him the £2 he requested. Not only that but he knew we did not want to be taken to carpet shops and at least his english was good. A visit to the old Tangier is a must and another must is to haggle your way to a bargain. Morrocans will be offended if you accept theor asking price and love to ...

Review of Tanger (Morocco)

Don't get the Hump!

Advantages: Great beaches, food and places of interest
Disadvantages: The locals need to be watched

Tangiers has a truly exotic feel. If you've done the usual jaunts to Spain and Greece, it can be a bit of a culture shock. It hasn't got that Could-be-anywhere-in-Europe "safe" feeling. And it's this that some people find unsettling. On my first day in Tangiers I saw a man herding three goats down the busy main road...you don't get that in Alicante or Athens! The shops sell a lot of locally produced goods that can be bought at very cheap prices, and the beaches are some of the best anywhere...and often empty. Most hotels are better quality than you get in Europe for a similar price. The other side of the coin is that I found most of the local Arabs, although apparently friendly, were untrustworthy. We knew of several people who were robbed (including one in our own party) and were amazed when the police handed out instant justice to ...
