I cannot recommend this resort highly enough. The Tanjung Rhu resort is set at the secluded end of the island away from any hustle and bustle along a mile long white sandy beach. To the front of the resort you have the Andaman sea and to the rear you have the mangroves and rainforest covered hills of Langkawi.

We booked directly with the hotel about 8 months in advance and they offered us a 10% discount via email. We also booked directly with Malaysia Airlines who at the time offered free internal flights from Kuala Lumpur. So, 13 hours to Kuala Lumpur, a 30 minute wait and a free flight to Langkawi. The transfer, arranged by Tanjung Rhu took approximately 25 minutes. I'd recommend Malaysia Airlines having flown many times with them. I've never experienced any delays and the service is second to none. So make sure you book direct with the hotel and the airline to save on what can be an expensive treat. All of the staff at Tanjung Rhu speak good English, don't worry its very easy to book directly with them.

We've been to this resort four times within the last six years and it has never let us down. As soon as you arrive you step into complete relaxation in the open plan reception area. The staff there are instantly on hand and while someone takes your bags you're effortlessly checked in. The porter takes you and your bags to your room where a fresh bowl of fruit awaits you and he shows you all of the rooms facilities. The rooms are extremely comfortable, clean and welcoming. Its worth booking a room with a sea view. You can throw back the curtains to a long white sandy beach, palm trees and the islands of the Andaman sea.

The staff are incredibly hospitable. Nothing is ever a problem and they delight in going the extra mile for guests. The hotel's manager lives on site and is quick to introduce himself and his family.

The Tanjung Rhu is a large resort hotel. Large in terms of space. It never feels busy or crowded and maintains an air of exclusivity without feeling stuffy. There are plenty of options for the sun worshippers with a white sand mile long beach right on your front door and beautiful pools. Whether you're sat by the pool or on the beach, waiters regularly visit you with plates of chilled pineapple or melon and a cold towel. The largest pool is suitable for children and the whole resort is a very safe environment.

When it comes to food you'll be spoiled for choice. There are several restaurants on the resort ranging from authentic Malay to bistro style, european and fine dining. Each serve excellent meals and I have never seen such an amazing range of breakfast options. Try the Nasi Lemak for breakfast, its out of this world! We always choose to go all-inclusive as this seems to be the most economical option. If you choose to pay seperately for meals you'll pay European prices. If you're in Langawi though you must try the night stalls. They're about 20 minutes in the free hotel shuttle and this is where you can experience the very best authentic Malay food. For about ten Ringitt (£2.00) you can feast on an amazing array of fresh seafood, malay curries and fruits. If you really want to spoil your partner you can book a private barbeque under canvass on the beach in front of the hotel. From here you can enjoy a truly beautiful sunset over the Andaman sea while your own personal team of waiters deliver you a very high class barbeque.

The hills and mountains behind Tanjung Rhu are covered with dense rainforest and mangroves at low level. From the beach you can book a private boat that will take you deep into Langkawi's ecosystem. On one of these trips you can feed flocks, yes flocks, of sea eagles, explore the mangroves, visit cave systems and really soak up the natural Langkawi. The wildlife here is diverse and unspoiled.

On your return from exploring the island the Tanjung Rhu has a fantastic spa where you can really unwind for as long as you like. On hand are highly professional spa attendants and therapists with a range of just about every spa treatment possible. We regularly book the twin one hour Malay full body massage and then simply float back to our rooms. Quite honestly, I've never experienced relaxation like this anywhere else.

If sports and exercise are you're thing the resort has its own watersports centre where you can sail or windsurf. There is also good sized gym available. Throughout you're stay there are plenty of other activities scheduled whether it be organised cycling or archery. We took a very memorable guided horse ride up through the forest, the rubber plantation and along the beach.

This is also a great holiday for children. Just like the adults they are well catered for and above all, made to feel welcome. Tanjung Rhu also has a schedule of activities for children where they can learn a different culture and explore Langkawi's ecology.

The weather stays fairly constant all year round and maintains temperatures between 30 and 35 degrees. We've only experienced one or two rainstorms and these seem to pass very quickly. So basically, its very hot and very sunny.

With now several visits to Tanjung Rhu we've often wondered whether we should try any of the island's other resorts and hotels. We've been to visit others which on the face of it look equally as good as Tanjung Rhu. However, the others seem to more colonial in style, less friendly and a definitely stuffier than Tanjung Rhu. In my opinion this kind of holiday is about complete relaxation and the Tanjung Rhu resort achieves this for you effortlessly.

I'll go again and again and again. In summary, I'd say treat your family, chill-out relax and go as soon as you can. Unbeatable!
