Tap and Spile, Birmingham a great pub!

Advantages: A good, honest pub
Disadvantages: Can be rather full, sometimes

The Tap And Spile public house, is on Gas Street, Birmingham. In fact, the pub can be entered on two levsl, from Gas Street (which is just off Broad Street) and on a lower level, from the canalside tow path.

Although both sections of the pub are attractive (in a rather nice traditional pub sort of a way) I tend to prefer the lower level.

There is a wide range of beers available, and about £2.00 a pint or so, the London ...
...drink of choice at The Tap and Spile.

There is also a good selection of other high quality ales available including Adnams Broadside and Old Speckled Hen, along with several others. Cider (real cider) has also been known to be sold there, too!

There is also a wide range of country wines, including Parsnip wine and Mead, and these are all well worth a taste, though a word of caution, they should be treated with a great ... more

Lincoln Wot No Motorway

Advantages: quaint, historic inexpensive, miles of taxi for three quid!
Disadvantages: not very accessable,a little outdated

As Iv'e just written several ops on dream destinations (I go on my hols this weekend so Im in the mood!) I felt it time to come back down to earth with my old home town of Lincoln. Lincoln the town that motorways forgot! There are no motorways in the entire county of Lincolnshire and its the sort of place you don't pass through to get anywhere. This is probably why it lacks sophistication but has retained its charm if a little outdated. It is a history fans dream with a very grand cathedral, castle and small museum. The "Up Hill" area by the cathedral is quaint with cobbled streets and tea shops. The best restaurants and bars can also be found "Up Hill". The absolute double of Leonardo De Caprio used to work behind the bar of the "Tap And Spile" pub don't know if he still does but he used to attract ladies of a certain age ...

A lovely multi-cultural city

Advantages: Beautiful city with a cosmpolitan outlook
Disadvantages: Tends to flood regularly

the superior Castle Museum. Shopping in York is a mixture of the modern High Street store and the small nick-nack type shop which can be found in the smaller narrow streets. The prices are not typical of the North but still represent better value than other major tourist cities like Cambridge and London. Entertainment is also varied with all types of restaurant and all types of pub. Avoid Micklegate on Friday-Saturday nights unless you love the crowds and loud music but visit it during the day for good book and second hand record shops. Favourite pubs and restaurants of mine are: The Maltings on Tanners Row for excellent real ales; although it isn't very large and does get very busy; The Tap and Spile on Boongate, The Lendal Cellars on Lendal Street; The Akash in North Street for excellent curries; and if you are feeling opulent ...

Great for night life

Advantages: Great variety, close together
Disadvantages: None

. From the title you might expect something a little different but in truth it is only the Polish spirit on sale behind the bar which makes this different. They also offer a range of exotic cocktails which come at a rather heavy £15 each, but come in a huge jug so that there is enough to share around with all your mates. If you are into your more traditional type pub surroundings them the next three will be for you. With their front doors within about twenty steps of each other The Tap & Spile, Seamus O'Donnells and The Old Still are compact, tradditional and still the kind of places where many of the patrons are regulars. Moving into Queens Street there is the Press, which from the front looks deceptively small, but inside goes deep into the building, there is also an upstairs where there are regular discos. This one is a strange mix ...
