Tapas Tapas Bar (Dresden)

Advantages: tasty, great atmosphere, reasonably priced, decent amount of choice for vegetarians
Disadvantages: too much choice!

...(Tapas, for those who don't know, is a Spanish speciality - little dishes of food, often thought of as appetisers. Once simply slices of bread, ham and cheese, tapas has evolved into an art form, with an amazing variety of dishes available depending on where you are.) With a name like "The Bun Shop", you don't really expect a tapas bar, do you? This pub in the heart of Cambridge is a bizarre place - it features a traditional bar, a wine bar, and, of course, the tapas bar. Walking in, we went through the traditional bar (your standard pub) and upstairs to the tapas bar...and the change in atmosphere was amazing. The tapas bar is set out in Spanish style, with wooden benches, beamed ceilings, Spanish music playing softly and all sorts of weird and wonderful things covering the walls and ceilings, from swords to banjos. ...This lovely little tapas restaurant in the centre of Didsbury, South Manchester comes with five stars and a big thumbs up from me. We went on Sunday evening for the first time after wandering round Didsbury and thinking it looked like one of the nicest restaurants there. It was quiet because it was a Sunday night but the atmosphere was still great and I imagine it is fantastic on a busy Saturday night. The tables are all nicely set out and each are lit by a lovely chunky candle. The menu is very extensive and there is plenty of choice for meateaters and veggies alike - I am a veggie and have often struggled in La Tasca and the like to get a good amount of food but not here - there was too much choice so we ended up getting eight dishes between the two of us. ...I've been here a few times, so in a general sense that says it all! This is a good-value (not cheap, but good value!) place to eat if you like tapas. Here's why: Atmosphere - this is a more genuine and Spanish atmosphere than other similar ones nearby (i.e. La Tasca, which is great but a chain so...). Tables are nicely set, it's a bit dark which I think is good, but don't go if you are looking for a bright/cheery place. Good intimate place for a date! On the atmosphere note, on 2 occasions while I was here there were Salsa dance lessons going on upstairs. This gives the place an active vibe and of course could be fun if you're into dancing! Drinks - not extensive by my standards, but a good wine list and the bar is right at front, good if you need to wait around a bit. Little pricey, but it is Didsbury. Food - well... Read review
