As said Tavira is not Large.
The Hotel is located Near the River, and there is a large Modern Market just behind the Hotel. This sells Fresh Produce and is also the Fish ... ...the Large Church that Dominates Tavira, well worth a Visit the inside walls a mass of Blue And White Tiles showing biblical scenes.
Next to the Church is the remains of a Small Castle area with a lovely small garden.
Next to this is the Water Tower which also houses a Camera Obscurer (sorry for spelling), it was not open the day we went up.
But The View from up here across Tavira to the Coast is stunning. more
TAVIRA a small town on the Algarve, this is a very quiet place so if looking for Night Life , look elsewhere.
If you are looking for Peace and Quiet and the Beauty of Nature then come to Tavira.
Fly into FARO Airport, usually at the time of year we go, Early January for a pickmeup after the Xmas and New Year, I am disappointed if we have to pay more than £50 return on Easyjet from either East Midlands or Stansted.
The flight times are good for us From East Mids normally 06:30 departure. Arrives FARO about 09:15.
Tavira is located about 24 Kilometers towards the Spanish Boarder.
We book our Transfer thru WWW.AUTO-FARO.COM
They charge 40 Euros each way for the 4 of us. No extra charges that is what you pay even if flight late. They are very good and friendly, the Taxi driver will give you a little tour of Tavira, no extra charge.

The Hotel is located Near the River, and there is a large Modern Market just behind the Hotel. This sells Fresh Produce and is also the Fish Market. It is well worth a stroll around, and you do not have to be up at the crack of Dawn, gets going about 09:00.
Tavira Stands on the river, and there is a pleasant Promenard for a 10 min stroll.
On the bank is the Old Fish Market that has been transferrred in to a Pleasant Hall with a few Shops and Cafes.
Along this side of the river are about a dozen eateries, not bad but suggest you see my review on O PATIO, our favourite eating place.
At the end of the Promenarde is The ROMAN BRIDGE, which is now fronted by a small open air theatre, also some nice cafes and cake shops in this area.
Above and a bit of a climb, but not too bad. Is the Large Church that Dominates Tavira, well worth a Visit the inside walls a mass of Blue And White Tiles showing biblical scenes.
Next to the Church is the remains of a Small Castle area with a lovely small garden.
Next to this is the Water Tower which also houses a Camera Obscurer (sorry for spelling), it was not open the day we went up.
But The View from up here across Tavira to the Coast is stunning.
Finally the Beach at Tavira, this has to be accessed by Ferry as it is actually a Sand Spit that runs along the coast.
The Ferry is 1 Euro 20 Cents return.
The Ferry drops you off on what is called the Ilah, you walk across the Spit to the Beach which is about 10 Kilometers long of fine soft sand. At this end there are a few cafes/Restaurants, normally not open this time of year unless the owners happen to be working on them. Or as happened a Wedding reception was being held, what a bonus.
The Beach is considered a Nature Reserve, no RADIOS etc, just peace and quiet.
Tavira also has a large nunber of Salt Pans so there are numerious kinds of Birds for any Bird watchers amongst you.
Tavira has Good Bus links to Faro and the Spnish Boarder, also it is on the Train Line.
Driving in the area is safe as it is far from busy.
So if you are looking for the quiet retreat then treat yourself to a stay in Tavira.
In the rating for Night Life I have put POOR but thats how we like it.
Advantages: Not for the package holiday 18 - 25. Disadvantages: We have told you about it.........................
We have just been to Tavira, it is our 3rd visit in 5 years.
Our first visit was like a breath of fresh air as I had just lost my brother on Christmas Day and my brother-in-law on New Years Day.
We had booked to go well before our losses, and flew off with saddened heart.
If you require peace, quiet and restfulness then this is the place to go.
Catch the little ferry out to the sand split and walk, walk, walk. We have never got to the end of ... ...that sort of invite.
Tavira, has a lot to offer, just strolling around visit the Tower of Tavira. This is an old water tower that is being used to view the whole city/town. It uses two mirror lenses which have been installed inside the tower at the top and you have a big screen and a 360 degree view, quiet inspirational all for 3-50 euro.
The Tower is next to a wonderful church, greja de Santa Maria with a clock tower and a face on each facet. ...

Advantages: A jovial and attentive waiter Disadvantages: None
We were on our Annual Short break to Tavira in Portugal on the Algarve.
The previous September my Brother Rob, and his by far better half Roz had been caught up in the XL Failure so had ended up with a replacement holiday in Cabanas, a small town juts an 8 Euro Taxi ride from Tavira.
So on the Sunday Luch we tripped over to Cabanas, there were six on this jaunt, Rob/Roz Anne and Daughter Sheryl and Jane and I.
Rob/Roz had a Restaurant in mind, Restaurante Fonte (See Bostonianbeer review on it), but alas although owners were there and remembered Rob/Roz they were not open until the evening.
Never mind we had a wander, purused a few menus and settled on the RESTAURANTE O PEDRO.
It looked a small place with about 7 tables out front, as the Sun was shining we asked the waiter outside for tables for 6, at this point we ...
