We have just been to Tavira, it is our 3rd visit in 5 years.
Our first visit was like a breath of fresh air as I had just lost my brother on Christmas Day and my brother-in-law on New Years Day.
We had booked to go well before our losses, and flew off with saddened heart.
If you require peace, quiet and restfulness then this is the place to go.
Catch the little ferry out to the sand split and walk, walk, walk. We have never got to the end of the split in the visits that we have taken.
We have promised ourselves that we will on one of our visits.
On this trip on the split, none of the bars are open so you need to take water with you as the sun is quiet warm and very little shade once walking, though this time we set off to catch the ferry back into the town when we heard music and we saw one of the bars open. On looking closer there was a wedding cake on the table, (I had to have a look as I make and ice wedding cakes) it looked wonderful in yellow and white icing. The bar owner invited us in and I could have a close inspection and he told us that there was going to be a wedding reception there at 2-00pm and all the quests would be over on the ferry and we would be welcome to stay. We had decided to go to the hotel and have a swim in the afternoon so declined the offer, but how when we had got back to the hotel we wished we had stayed. Not every day you get that sort of invite.
Tavira, has a lot to offer, just strolling around visit the Tower of Tavira. This is an old water tower that is being used to view the whole city/town. It uses two mirror lenses which have been installed inside the tower at the top and you have a big screen and a 360 degree view, quiet inspirational all for 3-50 euro.
The Tower is next to a wonderful church, greja de Santa Maria with a clock tower and a face on each facet. This again is well worth the visit, as is the Castelo also next door. With a wonderful restaurant with a view over Tavira you could spend the whole of the day up here.
We can only describe Tavira as "Cut and come again" as one visit is never enough.
Visit and enjoy before it gets too big and you have missed it.

Good review, what a coincidence we must have passed you on the beach as we saw the same restaurant waiting for a wedding party to arrive. Perhaps next year we can have a drink or two together. regards Steve.
