Madrid is the first city in Spain(the second one is Barcelona).
There´s living there around the 4.500.000 natives(much of them are not madrilians because(like London i suppose)
there are a "mix "of people it,s a cosmopolitan cityin wich every stranger are wellcome.Much of them comes from South America(Spain is for these people the Modern Native country).Its situated just in the center of spain.Some interesting places too in frontier with Madrid are Toledo,Segovia ,Avila..
The city has a culture reflected on old monuments like Museo del prado,Palacio real,Pza dela villa,Catedral dela almudena(there is not the best cathedral of spain;there is much better I have to recognize it but it,s very handsome too...

Advantages: You'll visit a little secret place! Disadvantages: Just for a day.
...Yes, La Plata means the silver but it can also means the money, and it was quite right during some time for this city to be called like that. La Plata is the capital of Buenos Aires Province, and after it was founded in the 1880's it was the heart of the whole country.
Although now the heart and soul is in the Federal Capital, called Capital Federal, a very original name... La Plata kept it's interesting life. It's about 56 km southeast from the Fed. Cap.
La Plata has amazing public buildings because it was supposed to reflect it's main roll in the Argentinean history. And the distribution of this tries to imitate Washington DC, USA, where all the major avenues are connecting the city's public buildings and parks.
La Casa de Gobierno, that is the Government House, is were the Governor "works", head of the city, and is one...

Advantages: Friendly, small, interesting museums Disadvantages: There are FAR better places in Costa Rica
...a bad experience. The majority of cabbies speak English as well. San Jose is quite polluted in the centre, and suffers from really horrendous snarled up traffic. However, the people are really friendly and in tourist areas there is quite a large police presence, including the newish police-on-bicycles, who are there to make you feel secure.
Sights of San Jose:
Museo de Oro - in the Plaza dela Cultura, this is an astounding museum of gold and Pre-Columbian civilization. It has some truly beautiful examples of gold, and you can learn a lot about indigenous culture. Entry is quite cheap (about 3 pounds sterling, when I was there), and free for Costa Ricans.
Jade Museum - this is slightly less central, but again has some fantastic exhibits.
Teatro Nacional - again on the Plaza dela Cultura, this is a theatre with some interesting artwork...
