Utila and Roatan

Advantages: Cheap and cheerful, beautiful sunsets
Disadvantages: Sandflies, mosquitoes, get's 'samey' after too long

Getting to the Bay Islands can be quite 'interesting'. I flew from Miami into Tegucigalpa, then took possibly the oldest plane in the world into Roatan, overall costing about £550. It's probably only worth going there directly to learn to dive, otherwise incorporate it into travelling round Central-South America. To get from Roatan to Utila, you have to take the ferry via the mainland, which takes ages but only costs around £15. If you want to get accomodation, make sure you elbow to the front of the queue as there are always are many people as beds. Utila - everyone goes there to learn to dive, and if you're an experienced diver, you might find it a bit too regimented. It's very pretty though. There's a few places to eat and drink which are cheap, but the resort is very small. Beware - the island electricity is cut off after ...

Review of Bay Islands (Honduras)

This book will change your life . . .

Advantages: Hilariously funny. Highly original.
Disadvantages: Some definitions are dated.

drive carefully" or "Welcome to Tegucigalpa", I would place my own home-made version saying "Woking (vb) - standing in the kitchen wondering what you came in here for" or "Tegucigalpa (n) - An embarrassing mistake arising out of confusing the shape of something rather rude with something perfectly ordinary when groping for it in the darkness. A common example of a tegucigalpa is when a woman pulls a packet of Tampax out of her bag and offers them around under the impression that it is a carton of cigarettes." (although I wouldn't have had to do the latter unless I went on holiday to the Honduras). I even went as far as looking up all the OS grid references in an atlas for future reference. This daft idea remains, alas, but a dream. Quite apart from the hideous complexity of making ridiculously out of the way journeys around Britain ...

Review of The Meaning of Liff - Douglas Adams

Taca Airlines

Advantages: Can book you onto business class!
Disadvantages: Will not cover the cost!

Deciding to go travelling in central america has been one of the best things i've done to date. However trying to get back from there, by a set date, was more difficult than it seems. After spending a few months working as a volunteer in Honduras (for anyone who fancies doing something like this, do not go with a company who claim to offer "conservation activities", its just one big rip off, go to the country and offer your volunteering services to a worthy cause), i soon learned that if in Britain a particular task takes one hour to complete, in Honduras it may take four days to complete. Bearing this in mind, i had booked my return flights months in advance. The dates being particularly important to me, as i was returning home for my graduation. A date which i didn't want to miss, as i wanted to graduate with my university ...
