Great City
Advantages: Safe, Friendly People Disadvantages: Nothing you wouldn't get in any other city
I have been to Tel Aviv at least 10 times through a past job.
Whilst the airport is a bit of a pain it is not as bad as you would think. The hype is over rated. Interrogations don't exist. Not really any worse than going to the states. You do have multiple security searches where laptops are checked, shoes scanned but so what, its an airport, you may as well be doing that rather than sitting in the lounge.
Other than that the airport is fine (apart ... ...A word of advise for Tel Aviv, don't drive or hire a car. They don't give a monkey when driving, they drive at you not around you. If like me your there for work and your far out of town then please oh please make sure you've ordered a cab well in advance. On my first trip there in a full suit I didn't know. Left work at 7pm, still hot, no passing Taxi. A short walk later and I found a number of cabs but as I hadn't booked they laughed instead and ...

A glimpse of the real state
Advantages: It's an eye-opener Disadvantages: It's not very glamorous
The Eretz (literally meaning "The Land") museum is a monument to the continuing struggle experienced by past and present Israelis in establishing the Promised Land. There are numerous archive photographs, artefacts and displays which capture something of the history of this young country. This is not so much about the ancient history of this land, for that you are better served at the national museum in Jerusalem. For me this was a shame, as the ... ...be present here in the Eretz museum. It is no mean feat that a country could be established from nothing. There are many exhibits showing the back breaking tasks that went into providing housing, engineering infrastructure, water, power, roads from out of the desert. And it seems churlish to admit that this is anything other than a truly remarkable achievement. However, if you take the context away from the displays, you could easily leave feeling ...

Security is priority
Advantages: High security levels Disadvantages: Long queues
I have travelled to this airport more times than I am able to recall. Time after time I am impressed by the quality and levels of security. This is one airport where, although there are traumas in the country, I have no fear for my safety.
Advice for Ben Gurion airport is
1) Be honest, tell the security officers the truth when they are questioning you
2) They are just doing their job and they do it exceptionally well
3) Its for your own safety ...

NaTBaG 2000 Has Arrived!
Advantages: Safety, beautiful, spacious Disadvantages: Parking is expensive, no train to Jerusalem - YET
...that Israel's international airport in Tel Aviv, known as Ben Gurion International Airport has recently opened (almost five years behind schedule) what they call "NaTBaG 2000". The letters N T B G are actually the initials of the Hebrew "Namal Teufah Ben Gurion" – or in English, Ben Gurion Airport, and the 2000 was supposed to be the year that they opened up the brand new Terminal 3. Unfortunately, all sorts of bureaucracy got in the way, and NaTBaG ... ...- if you're going to Tel Aviv, you can take the train from the new Terminal 3! Yes, downstairs is a train station - like in a real civilized country. Of course, right now the trains are only to Tel Aviv (and from there to trains to other parts of the country), but they're close to finishing the tracks to a large suburb half way between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv called Modi'in, which will eventually (not soon enough for me, however) connect up to Jerusalem ...
