Wha? Queen of Hats & Cheap Suits? Wha?

Advantages: Is pretty interesting & lovely view from the top.
Disadvantages: So shiny & new due to shoddy restoration.

As some of you may know I have just returned from a week in Egypt, we started off in Luxor and this was the first site that we visited on our magical mystery tour. Oh and sorry about the title, I was having trouble remembering her name and our guide told me to remember it as Hat, Cheap, Suit! ~Getting There~ We were booked onto a river cruise, and our boat was docked just outside Luxor Temple, that morning we were all woken up early for a 7am breakfast and then piled onto a coach. The trip from Luxor Temple (on the East Bank of the Nile), by coach to Deir El-Bahri & Egypt's famous West Bank takes about 20 mins, crossing the river by the only bridge in Luxor, aptly named Luxor Bridge. If anyone stays in Luxor, you will probably be staying on the East Bank, I don't believe that there are any hotels on the West Bank. The land ...

Review of Queen Hatshepsut's Temple, Luxor

Temple of Karnak-among the best sites in Egypt

Advantages: Intricately detailed temple
Disadvantages: Crowds of tourists

with another two backpackers and settled down into a hostel. The two boys obviously hadn't had my traumatic experience coming down on the train, having gone first class and were all psyched up to go and see some temple or other. I waved them off saying I was knackered and would catch up with them later and we could head to Valley of the Kings tomorrow together and went to lie down in our room. At this point I realised why all the touts at the railway station had been shouting about air-conditioning which we did not have. I am no stranger to heat and have been in many tropical countries and everyone has always said that the humid heat is the worst yet I have never experienced the intensity of that dry heat in Luxor and other places along the edges of the Sahara. After 15 minutes I gave up, grabbed a guidebook to see that the boys had marked they ...

Review of Temple of Karnak, Luxor

The temple at Luxor

Advantages: A very pleasant city with lots of historical background
Disadvantages: Very hot during the summer

Tyhe temples at Luxor were absolutley amazing. I was so astounded at the site that I still have those memories of that holiday to egypt. The site is bathed in Ancient Eyptian glory and the historical background was very good. When you go I have to say that you definately need to get a very good tour guide that speaks good english and make sure that he actually knows what he is talking about and isn't just reciting something that he has learnt off by heart. When I went we had a very good a very good guide and he knew almost everything about egypt. I would hope he does considering he was studing Ancient Egypt at university. The basic temples are amazing and across the beloved Nile is the tombs of Tutenkarmen. This is the land of the kings and is very good. You can see the tomb of Ramses the III. I really enjoyed this and we went ...
