So, when I learned that I was going to Bangkok, I immediately decided that my trip wouldn't be complete without a visit to this temple. Besides, most people would site this as one of the top three must-see temples in Bangkok (the other two would be Temple of the Dawn and Temple of the Emerald Buddha). And, as the one arranging for the trip, my companions had no choice but to accompany me to the temple.
To go there, we just took a taxi from our hotel in Pathumwan Princess. Unfortunately, taxi drivers in Bangkok like to take advantage of unassuming tourists, and would hike up the fares without us the wiser. Our driver charged us 200 baht (Sukhumvit area to Chao Phraya river area) and given this distance, we learned woefully later on that it normally costs much less! More like less than 100 baht!
Entrance to this site is very affordable, though... only 50 baht per person. Upon paying, you will the entrance to the temple just a few steps in front of you. To enter, you have to remove your shoes. So I would suggest wearing shoes with socks.

There is a walkway on the side, encompassing the length of the Buddha. As you proceed, you will encounter the Buddha's head first. (A VERY GOOD INDICATOR: tourists with cameras clicking away). Then, when you'll see the feet after walking a few steps further. (ANOTHER VERY GOOD INDICATOR: more tourists with cameras clicking away--> the very reason for this would be, I discovered, is that this area has a good vantage point of capturing the whole Buddha with yourselves, albeit not length-wise) After that, you'll encounter a whole row of urns, wherein you can choose to take a cup of coins and drop one coin into an urn (for good luck?) or you can just proceed to the exit.
All in all, it was an okay experience which all first-time visitors to Bangkok must try and see. But I don't see myself going back for another look.

Review of Temple of the Reclining Buddha (Wat Pho), Bangkok
Advantages: A must if you are in Bangkok Disadvantages: Can get very busy
...in it's own temple, the temple itself is the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok and is over 300 years old. The buddha housed inside was put in the temple just under 200 years ago, it stands about 15 meters high and is over 40 meters long.
The buddha is covered in gold plating and should you wish you can buy a small piece of gold leaf which you can add to the buddha yourself for luck. The soles of the buddah's feet are black marble inlaid with ... ...you are going into any temple in Thailand, you will also have to remove your shoes but don't forget your camera if you go here.
The Wat Pho (Temple) is on all the small tourist guide maps you can buy and you can either get there by taxi or tuk tuk. If you only do it once a trip on a tuk tuk is a must, even if it is more expensive than a normal metered taxi. There are buses but they can get a little confusing if you're not 100% sure you know where ...
