For those seeking to escape the winter gloom in Britain, Tenerife offers an ideal combination - warm sunny days, reasonable prices, great nightlife and not too far away.
For the best winter sunshine choose a southern resort, the north of the island is more prone to rain. For the liveliest nightlife go to Playa de las Americas - even in December the bars are still busy. I have spent time in Tenerife in early December and, although the bar staff will tell you it is quiet compared to the summer months, by any normal standard it seems busy. The bars are all full, but the difference is that you are able to move along the pavements!
Food is good, plentiful and reasonably priced. There are plenty of restaurants or if you don't want to interrupt your drinking, most bars serve food.
If you need to use a bank, watch the opening times. After experiencing their hours of service you will view British banks in a different light! There are, however, the usual cash machines which will take your cards.
The only downside is the number of street traders - don't make eye contact or you may never shake them. They are selling the usual tat and fakes and don't appear to sleep. If you want to buy a dodgy watch at 4am - no problem.
For those wanting to get away from the bars I would recommend a trip into the Teide National Park. Mount Teide is the volcano in the centre of the island of Tenerife and the landscape is stunning. Even on the odd day when the coastal areas are cloudy you generally climb up above the cloud level as you approach Teide. For those wanting to get to the top there is a cable car ride or a (long)walk. There are many trips available or why not rent a car?
Overall Tenerife gives a great deal. Temperatures in December around 80 Fahrenheit (don't know, maybe 25 + Celsius). Travel self-catering, you probably won't make breakfast anyway and the food is better and cheaper in the bars and restaurants than in the hotels. Have a good time and don't forget - Paul sent you!

We propose some unforgettable holidays in "El Capistrano Villages", in Nerja, the privileged balcony of the Costa del Sol. "El Capistrano Villages" is, possibly, the most beautiful and exclusive Urbanisation on the Costa del Sol.
Advantages: Good weather, nice beach, choice of restaurants, good for families Disadvantages: apartment basic, rep not helpful, harassing by day trip sales people
