When I mention Tenerife as an ideal Holiday people quite often frown. I think that this is due to the fact that everyone imagines Tenerife as consisting of one town Playa De Las Americas.
Most people see this town as full of lager louts and to be honest of a night time they are right. Tenerife however is more than Veronica's party strip. Los Cristianos is just 5 mins away from Playa de las Americas.
This op is going to be more of a general overview of Tenerife itself but obviously with a few recommendations.
With an all year climate temperatures in May to October, can reach 30 degrees and in the winter a gentle but pleasant 18 degrees. General retail prices are cheaper than the UK especially cigarettes and alcohol.
Use a high factor sun cream, sun hat and take something to cover up with. You can burn in ten minutes popping out to the supermarket, most people see the sky looking overcast and think this cannot happen but take it from me YOU BURN!
Food is cheap, you can purchase a three course meal for about £8.
You can island hop by ferry, hydrofoil or jetfoil to any of the islands for a mere 1920 pts (£8.00), which is a bargain.
Below I have listed some of the sites/tours. Why not visit Loro Parque in puerto de la Cruz. A zoological and botanical park including a shark tunnel, an orchid garden, sea lions and the largest collection of parrots in the world. Great for nature lovers. There are also a lot of companies offering Whale & Dolphin Safaris we went with Freedom Yacht Charter, SL Puerto Colon, Playa de Las Americas, however a lot of these tours can be arranged through the tour operator you travel with. They quite often offer deals where you get 6 trips/nights out for £80-90.
If you are offered the chance to go on a medieval night then go, it was such good fun from drinking wine from goblets to eating chicken with your bare hands to cheering on your designated Knight!
Tenerife is also great for water sports the offer anything from fishing to scuba diving to surfing and sailing. I Visit to Mount teide is also a great experience with wonderful views it is one of those experiences you do not forget in a hurry prices vary so shop around for these excursions. Do not pay over 5000 pts (£20 roughly) for a trip like this.
If you are not tired by now then Veronica's in Playa de Las Americas is the place to party! It is a small Strip With untold amounts of bars. The best thing about it is because there are so many there is so much competition for business they are practically giving alcohol away! (This made me go twice in 3 months)
Tenerife again, is one of those places where certain areas are for the youngsters but the island has so much to offer within easy range that I would recommend it to anyone.
When I went to Tenerife our accommodation was sparse yet clean this was the case with most people I met. We paid £269 for two weeks self catering and I recently was looking for holiday and found this is about the average price.
If you are young and want to party Playa de Las America's is for you if you want to take it easy then maybe Los cristianos is better for you!
