Argh! How to write a succinct little paragraph to describe myself? Married mother of 2 in Yorkshire, desperately trying to juggle husband, kids, house and "me" time. I just realised that "Argh" at the beginning makes me sound like a pirate...

Well it was our family's very first visit to the Canaries and it was fantastic!
We stayed in Paraiso del Sol in Las Playas de las Americas in Tenerife. The hotel was alright but the area was jam-packed with bars, clubs and resorts. Not to mention the 18-30 clubbers who only come out at night!
Thankfully we had rented a car at the airport - excellent price too - and were able to drive to little beaches tucked away on the north-east coast that were visited mainly by the locals. They are absolutely beautiful beaches and with golden sand, not the black sand (volcanic) that is found in the tourist beaches like Las Americas and Los Cristianos.
The weather was excellent sunshine-wise but the water was far too cold for us to swim and the evenings were too chilly for my liking. I think next time (and there will definitely be a next time) we will be going either Easter time or during the late summer for more warmth.
The Sunday-morning open air market just outside of Santa Cruz (the capital) was EXCELLENT. I am a street market fanatic and I was well impressed. It was more locals than tourists and there were so many top-quality leather goods that it was hard to resist buying several belts and handbags.
A fantastic trip and a beautiful country.

I went but i did it with the girls when I was 18 and we never left Playes de las Americas nor did we see that much daylight. I'd like to go back and explore and see the real Tenerife. Nicky
