...about 5 more churches in Tenterden, including a Unitarian, a Roman Catholic, a Baptist, a Methodist, and St Michael's C of E (St Michael's is the adjoining village). The church is quite a large part of the community in Tenterden, as it is a small town, with a population of about 8,000, and there are many church meetings, committees, and choirs. ***Shops***
When I was growing up here, I can't exactly say I was ever too chuffed with the shops. It's ... ...also had a =home in Tenterden, called Smallhythe place, which is now open as a tourist attraction, and is one of the places I visited for research on my project all those years ago! The house is filled with gorgeous antiques and acting memorabilia, and a private theatre in an outside barn. This is definitely worth a visit. Nicki French, who covered Bonnie Tyler's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' (I'm scraping the barrel here) also originated from Tenterden, ...

Advantages: Staff are reasonably friendly Disadvantages: Poorly organised event, shouldn't run in the dark
Tenterden Steam Railway.
The Steam Railway in Tenterden run these Santa Trips at £15pp and there isn't a discount for children. Therefore the cost for myself and my partner and one 3yr old boy was £45. (£14 each if booked on-line)
The problem was that on Saturday 15th December all the train trips which run every hour were full and the first train they could get us on was the 4pm train, and this was obviously an afterthought by the Train Company ... ...but being dark we assumed the stations along the way might be lit up, but no and on the return the train stopped every 10 mins or so, for 5 or 10 mins, and this was in the middle of nowhere and nothing to see.
With only 4 people in our carriage, it might have been better if the Railway company had put everybody on the train in one carriage and another idea would possibly to have an entertainer (balloon modeller or clown) to entertain the kids. The ...

...On Sunday night I went out for dinner with my mate G. We have barely seen each other recently as we’ve both been living away from home. To celebrate her graduation and my survival of a year working in a hospital, we went to the Raja of Kent to gorge ourselves.
The Raja of Kent is an Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant just outside of Tenterden, Kent, where I live. The address is Biddenden Rd, St. Michaels, Tenterden, Kent TN30 6SX. It’s on the A262 towards Biddenden if your coming from Ashford or Biddenden. There are no public transport links to this location.
The restaurant used to be a pub and the building looks a bit like a large cottage. It’s based on a fairly sharp bend in the road and looks fairly out of place – just because it’s a curry house in the middle of the country. This is not your...

Advantages: good value Disadvantages: hate the people!!
...When I am in the motherland of Tenterden, Kent, the pub that I nearly always end up in is the County Hotel, in Ashford. That doesn't make too much sense, as it's a good 15 miles away from where I live, but because my school was in Ashford, most of my friends are too, and so I have drive all the way over there to meet them.
The County is a Wetherspoon's pub, and apparently hotel, although I am pretty much stumped about the features of the hotel, seeing as I have never noticed any suitcase-bearing revellers in their, or in fact any stairs to the rooms. It is a mystery to my friends and I. I feel like booking in just to see where these magical rooms are! Or maybe its just a name? Anyway, from here on in, I will telling you about the pub and restaurant facilities only.
Anyway, Wetherspoon's are a countrywide chain of public houses...

...), we usually go to a Kentish pub that will cater for her needs. And one of the places we have been to a couple of times now is The Bull Inn, Bethersden, near Ashford.
This is a Shepherd's Neame 'Gastropub'*, based in a 17th century building on the A28 between Tenterden, and Ashford, Kent. It is decorated in dark wood with beams, giving a nice rustic'y look. The pub has a nice bar stretching around, and a couple of big ole' leather sofas for lounging on. Although I have to say I have never lounged there, that would mean sitting my Nan down too, and we'd never get her up again. The restaurant area is nicely separate from the pub, although this never gets very rowdy (but then no pubs are on the 2nd January!), but it's deliciously smoke-free, so you can eat your dinner without risking death by second hand smoke. I have never met the manager...
