Teresopolis. I can only highly recommend a visit to Teresopolis if you happen to be in Rio. Teresopolis is situated high in the mountains, not very far from Rio. When in Rio is too hot to be born, in Teresopolis in much cooler. This is a destination for rich people. There are no monuments. People go there to relax, have parties and visit the mountains. There are quite a few paths you can follow into the mountains, or, better, the jungle. If you like climbing, Teresopolis is just for you, this is the spot No1 for climbing in Brazil, although the 2 Paulistas we met on the bus told us they used to go to Argentina for "serious climbing". Despite Teresopolis being quite modern, the path are not easily marked. There are plenty of local guides offering their services. They tend to show all different kind of identification badges. We joined a group of French people and went on a one day-trip in the jungle with a visit to one of the local rainfalls
