I've been to Benidorm twice don't think I will ever return again, however it was a pleasure to visit Terra Mitica whilst I was there, on both occasions.

Terra Mitica is a theme park that is located just on the outskirts of Benidorm, you see it clearly as you are coming from the airport on the journey to Benidorm as it has the words Terra Mitica embedded into the rocks, kind of like Hollywood style and when that captures you attention you can see a huge wooden roller coaster. Nothing much else can be seen from the road and by seeing it that way, it doesn't look to much as it situated up in the hills.

Its a place that if you like theme parks you have to visit it during your stay. Its quite easy to get a taxi to and from your hotels to the theme park or it is one of those trips that your travel representative is pitching to you to purchase from them for the commission, however it does work out cheaper making you own way there to be honest and you can leave whenever you want to aswell and are not subjected to if you are not on the coach by half 4 then we are going without you. Its only a ten minute journey from the main resort of Benidorm.

Terra Mitica is one of them places that never gets over crammed and you can guarantee no long queues whilst waiting for the rides. It always seems rather empty on both occasions when I have visited there however they must be doing okay for it to keep going and the amount of tourists that visit there over the year must be quite a lot. I guess we always choose to go on the days when the coach trips aren't running which is a bonus.

Terra Mitica is split into five different themes, Egypt, Greece, Rome, Iberia and the Islands and as you walk from one to another it welcomes you into the next area and all shops, cafe's and rides are themed to this particular place, for instance when in the Egypt them, you have all pyramid's everywhere and when in Rome, all the buildings have writing that have been engraved into them to give off amazing effects. Its a place in its own, just to walk through all the different themes and get an idea of what it would be like to live their long ago.

Rome

One of the longest wooden roller coasters in Europe has its home within Rome, the Magnus Colossus. An old rickety wooden coaster than leaves you thinking are you going to get off alive with the amount of noise that it makes as it goes around on the rails, its not extremely fast and they are no loops within it however there are a few quite big drops in which it picks up speed when it is approaching these. Its quite scary in its own right with it being so old, made of wood and the rails are rusty and when you look down all you can see are the rocks. Safety regulations here do need seem to be the same as in the UK either and you are not overly strapped in the biggest however with it being considered one of the biggest in Europe its got be one to go on. I found that this ride also only opens at certain times of the day and if you go early you will find that it is not open.

There are numerous kids ride within this area, so one to go if you want to keep the kids entertained. There is also another ride for adults similar to the Playstation that shoots you into the air, however I haven't actually been on this one.

Egypt

THere are a lot of water rides present in Egypt including a boat trip that takes you around the various sights and gives your legs a little rest which is great, but you have to make sure you visit them all, so the boat trip is a must. Gives you oportunity to relax and soak up the rays whilst seeing the sights.

Falls of the Nile is the main water ride within the park and is the Spanish equivalent of the Log Flume in the UK. Its a great ride with two quite big drops and a rotating circle that turns you around during the ride and takes you down backwards. You will definitely get soaked on this ride, there is no escaping it, but the sun takes care of this and drys you off pretty quick with is great. The hot sun gets annoying and to be honest the water cools you off a treat.

Greece

Tritons Fury again is another water ride and if you didn't get wet on the smaller one, then you will get drenched on this one as the drops are huge. The cars carry a lot more people and the weight within them makes the splashes a lot bigger.

The Synkope was my favourite ride at Terra Mitica, its like the Maelstrom at Drayton Manor Park, however the location that you are in makes it a lot more scary. A circle full of seats starts to rotate around and then starts to move up until you are tilted at a 120 degree angle, very scary ride that makes yoiu think you are going to hit the barriers as you come closer to the ground. Makes you feel as if you want to get off and when you do get off you want to get straight back on again.

Iberia

Iberia contains Tizona, a roller coaster that is full of twists and turns and loops and a really good white knuckle ride. I had to go on myself as my boyfriend at the time didn't really like the look of it, however I was throwing away the opportunity whilst I was there.

In General

The park has a lot of themed places to eat, however food is extremely expensive, so it advisable to get your hotel to make you a packed lunch. There are plenty of places to eat in both the sun and the shade.

Everyone want to capitalise on anything possible, so as you can imagine there are plenty of gift shops around, either Terra Mitica merchandise or merchandise appropriate to the various themes. There is a lot of nice things however that you can pick up, unusual things that you would not find in the centre of Benidorm, so if something takes your fancy, buy it as you won't have the opportunity again around town without returning to the park.

Themed shows are held throughout the day, although I did not go any of these the 2nd time and cannot remember the first one too well, they normally last around half an hour and are eaction packed and very entertaining.

Its a great day out and a place not to be missed if you are in Benidorm, prices are very reasonable too, much cheaper than Uk theme parks but I would recommend making your own way there and not putting more money in travel reps pockets.
