Thai airways may well look pretty good when compared to most European and American airlines but when up against the likes of Cathy and Singapore it comes a distant 3rd...with room for many more to plonk infront.

Flying Economy from Bangkok to Beijing my first shock was "NO PERSONAL TV" AGHHHHHHH...... it's a 5 hour flight and I'm so used to getting my own TV with Cathy and Sing on much shorter flights (in economy) that this was a great dissapointment....

The inflight entertainment was pittiful, one movie and one short for 5 hours, and lots of blank screen for the rest of the trip, even the music selection was lame.

The food was nothing to shout about, no where near as good as Singapore Airlines or Cathy, it wasn't bad as such just not as good as the others.

Onto the good stuff.

Leg room, there was a surprising amount of leg room and even when the nice lady infront of me decided to put her seat all the way back I still had good room for my legs and I am just under 6 foot and have long legs. The chairs also seemed to wider than on both Sing and Cathy, now this could be due to my losing weight....but I think that's just wishful thinking on my part. The seats definitely seemed to be pretty wide back in peasant class.

Service was punctual and efficient but they didn't put much effort into that famous Thai smile, not even to summon up energy for the "Bugger off and stop lighting the service Light" Smile.

Overall I would use Thai only for short hops within Asia and only when Singapore and Cathy don't cover the same routes from Bangkok.
