Face To Face With A Hammer Head Shark..

Advantages: A once in a lifetime experience that i will have to repeat one day.
Disadvantages: Nothing,...This is something i will never forget,

.../>

Thailand is one of the best diving areas in the world and many professional divers from across the globe regularly visit to take in some of the fantastic diving sights that certain areas of Thailand a renowned for.

I have only ever dived in the Phuket area, but on this occasion me and my husband opted for the Phi Phi Island as this was also very close to Phuket and we had never visited before, so we thought we would ...
...The best time to visit Thailand is from October to April because May to September is the monsoon season and this limits the visibility at the dive sights, making it really hard to spot marine life.

If you go in season then the water is crystal clear and warm at twenty eight degrees in temperature.

PRICES

The prices are very reasonable, if you have your own dive equipment it is slightly cheaper ... more

Real Life Discovery Channel

Advantages: Cheap, brilliant dive sites
Disadvantages: A bit of a pain to get to, but worth it

I first went to Thailand in early October 99 to visit a mate who was training to be a divemaster on the island of Koh Tao in the Gulf of Thailand. Whilst I was there I decided to learn to scuba dive - (this was mainly to protect my liver from all the partying that I was doing!). I did an PADI Open Water Diver (OWD) course which consisted of an introduction to the equipment, an explanation of the physics involved, the rules we must follow, the signals ...
...for novice divers) and 4 dives in pairs with an instructor. The first dive was in shallow water (5m) in a sandy bottomed bay, to familiarise ourselves with what is basically an alien environment. We had to perform various acts underwater including removing our mask and retrieving it, to prove we were capable of dealing with problems, then we went for a little swim. The first proper dive to 18m (the OWD limit) was awesome and hooked me for life! The ...

Similan Islands

Advantages: One of the top dive sites in the world
Disadvantages: diving is seasonal

...have spent 8 months in Thailand recently training to be a Scuba instructor in Pattaya (I will submit another review for these dives). Part of my course included the opportunity to go on a liveaboard to the Similan Islands in the andeman Sea. While in Thailand I actually I went on 2 trips to the Similan Islands, one before the Tsunami and one after. The trip was organised by a company called seaking but was all dealt with through the dive school ...
...really good, only £250 for 4 days diving. Because we were based in Pattaya we flew to Phuket from Bangkok airport, there are many budget airlines operating in Asia so it only cost us £20 for a return flight. All other transport was arranged by the liveaboard company. Once we arrived in Phuket we were taken to a large supermarket to stock up on any snacks or drinks we wanted to take then we boarded the boat, The Really Wicked Witch! Once on board ...

An Underwater Wonderland

Advantages: Superb corals and colourful fish.
Disadvantages: A long journey

Staying at Kata beach few years back, I booked a two dive package from Phuket Aquatic Safaris in Phuket town. At £50 it seemed a bit steep, but I by the time I returned I was amazed at the value. An air conditioned coach picked me up from the hotel on Kata beach and took me to the harbour some 20 miles away. I was met by the divemaster and transferred to an air conditioned express boat for very comfortable one hour journey to Phi Phi. Travelling ...
...It was only when we arrived that I saw my gear, carefully stored on the foredeck. Whilst the other daytrippers boarded a launch to take them ashore I boarded a long tail boat crewed by a couple of local guys. The gear was transferred and I didn't have to lift a finger. I found this hard to believe - I was the only diver, yet here was a boat and three guys at my service. We journeyed to Phi Phi Li, the smaller of the two islands, before they helped ...

The aquatic life was facinating though it was a whole new world. ...

Great Diving but One Day Was Enough

Advantages: Beautiful setting, very tranquil.
Disadvantages: Limited facilities, isolated.

I have very fond memories of my only visit to Phi Phi, which resulted from a dive package I booked in Phuket town a few years back. (My opinion about the diving can be found under Home>Sport>Watersports>Scuba Diving>Dive Sites>Thailand). The trip to Phi Phi was by air-conditioned express boat, travelling at a rate of 30 knots. Koh Phi Phi, or the Phi Phi Islands as they are often referred to (Pi Pi, Pe Pe or Pee Pee are alternate spellings according to which map or book you consult) consist of two main islands – Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Li. The accommodation I saw was on Phi Phi Don, and didn’t look too inviting. The location was fantastic but it was hardly one star, never mind five. I personally would not choose to stay there, preferring the deluxe accommodation of the Kata Thani. Phi Phi Don was also the main ...

Islands That Captured My Heart..

Advantages: Stunning scenery, beaches and sea life for all to see..
Disadvantages: Nothing what so ever..

producers got for altering and landscaping the island during filming, but as they spent so much money and changed the island for the better, it was brushed under the carpet. The beach was mainly filmed at Maya bay which is very popular for divers, this location not only offers beautiful surrounds for you to relax in but you can dive, snorkel, kayak and laze around the white sandy beaches. Maya bay was popular before the movie was made but ever since the movie was released this has become increasing popular with tourists from across the globe, I had personally never heard of Phi Phi until 2000 when the film was made, so I am sure this did Thailand a favor and attracted many tourists to the islands. Unfortunately the 2004 tsunami changed Phi Phi Leh Maya Bay by wiping out all of the landscaping that the production teams put in when they ...

their direction. The fish are as colourful as they are numerous and you can literally spend hours watching them as they go about their business. Each morning up to 15 black tipped sharks feed near the shore. These animals are completely harmless and run for cover if you get too close (as if!). There are many beaches within a few minutes walking distance from the village. The quality of these beaches is not as good as at Long Beach but they make a welcome retreat from the noise of the restaurants and bars. Here you can play volleyball or just watch all the activity that takes place around the pier. ATTRACTIONS Ko Phi Phi has many natural attractions that rank among the best in Thailand. The diving runs a close second to Ko Tao in the Gulf of Thailand and there are numerous sites for snorkelling. The wealth of fish on view is ...
