Gecko Villa
Review of Udon Thani (Thailand) by jrico

Advantages: location, pool, people, off the beaten path, views, experiences
Disadvantages: not too much English spoken in the local area

...20 minutes out of Udon Thani. Udon Thani itself is quite a modern Thai trading town, and did not really seem that attractive. However, once we had left the city we felt we had really found the true Siam from the past. We did not want to stay in a hotel and found the website (http://www.geckovilla.com) on the recommendation of friends. We were picked up by the owners at UTH airport off our Nok Air flight (which again had been recommended - http://www.nokair.com) ...
...had rented ourselves an entire country house for our holiday, right in the middle of the Thai countryside and surrounded by rice paddies and woodlands. We really enjoyed having the privacy of our own pool and house, and the food that was prepard for us daily was delightful (and learning how to make it from the owner, a former cook, really pleased my wife!). Perhaps the best thing was being able to explore the nearby rural villages and experience ... Read review

Udon Thani (Thailand)
Review of Udon Thani (Thailand) by westybrook

Advantages: Location, price, people
Disadvantages: Not for familys (Not many attractions)

I love Udon Thani and I think you could too. Udon is a nice city just an hours drive from the border of Laos. You can catch a plane to Bangkok airport for a very resonable price and the Udon Airport is now international flying to Singapore. I felt very safe and welcomed on my visit to Udon. If you have a family it might not offer everything for them as in attractions but the international hotels will all have pools in which to have a nice swim. The ...
...some lovely villages nearby which are worth visiting. You can visit the night market and buy some great products for yourself or family and friends at great prices too. If you are male then there are some good bars to visit at night and enjoy a nice drink with a lovely lady. ... Read review

Thai Me Up!
Review of Thailand - Outside Bangkok by nicnak172004

Advantages: Beautiful natural scenery, friendly locals, VERY cheap
Disadvantages: Parts becoming slowly more commercialised

Thailand really is a country which will change the way you look at the world. I have personally visited this country twice to date and during my time there saw many different sides to the country and what it has to offer. The most important to thing to understand about Thailand is that, although the majority of the country still reflects the original natural beauty that the country has to offer, some parts are slowly becoming very commercial in terms ...
...locations for anyone travelling to Thailand and it is fair to say that most tourist do make a stop off here at some point. The first time I visited this island tourism was only starting to creep in and, although it was already far more tourist orientated that most part of Thailand, western culture was yet to really seep through. The second time I visited this island, a mere two years later, alot had changed. It was simply more geared towards looking ... Read review

Working in an orphanage in Buriram
Review of Thailand - Outside Bangkok by hebawom

Advantages: Amazing people, lovely kids, making a difference
Disadvantages: Sad state of affairs, heart-breaking to leave

...RAINY SEASON:::- We went to Thailand at the end of the rainy season, and we saw some amazing storms. Not at all like English rain. One drop of this rain and you're wet through. It's like liquid marbles falling from the sky. One day we were in the middle of Buriram shopping for food and it started to rain heavily. We thought it would be quite an adventure to walk home in the rain (about 2 miles), and so we set out. I think that within the first 5 ...
...3 months I stayed in Thailand I was sick about 6 times. Again quite a crazy experience! -:::BURIRAM:::- I'm not sure I can recommend coming to this place just to see it. There are some nice places here, I especially enjoyed the night market, but I'm guessing that this town is pretty much like any other non-touristy town in Thailand. They have a snooker hall and a few nightclubs and that's it I think! -:::THE ORPHAN KIDS:::- We were only at the ... Read review

Koh Chang.....watch out for the mosquito
Review of Thailand - Outside Bangkok by Scottishlassie

Advantages: Relaxing, friendly,beautiful
Disadvantages: mosquitos and malaria

...is to the South-East of Thailand just across the water from Cambodia. Not as popular as the South-westerly islands of koh samui and koh pan-yan. Before I left on my trip to Thailand I asked around at the usual places (such as travel agency, doctor's surgery and Pharmacy) to make sure that I would be safe, against the dreaded mosquito and deadly malaria. Even although I stated I would be backpacking for around three weeks I was assured that I would ...
...true!!There are certain parts of Thailand you have to be aware of being exposed to Malaria, the North - being more humid - and the South East - in particular Koh chang - I didn't know this and went to Koh Chang for a three night stay and was bitten pretty badly. When I got home, fortunately for me I only had the jet lag usually suffered when on a long flight, but, was advised that koh chang is one of the high risk areas for malaria!!!! Pretty daunting!! ...
