Thalys between Brussels and Cologne

Advantages: quick, comfortable, punctual, clear price system
Disadvantages: limited network

...to now, I've used the Thalys ten times, with another journey coming next week.

Thalys in general
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thalys is a European high speed train, connecting Germany, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. From Cologne, there is a direct train to Paris, with stops in Aachen, ...
...Brussels and Paris. Also, the Thalys stops at Marne-La-Vallée-Chessy - the train station at Disneyland Paris.

Travel time from Brussels to Cologne is 2:20 hrs and from Cologne to Paris 3:55hrs. Every day, there are six possible journeys between these cities. From 2007, journey time will be cut down by approx. 50 minutes between Brussels and Cologne due to the new high speed track in Belgium, so the journey then will only take 1:30 ... more

Thalys

Advantages: on time
Disadvantages: little space, not very fast, worn out impression

We used the Thalys to get us from Brussels to Cologne and back. We also used the ICE to get us from Cologne to Freiburg. Compared to the ICE the Thalys didn't live up to our expectations. You don't have nearly as much leg space as in the ICE (it's comparable to an airplane); it can get quite hot; there isn't enough space to put your luggage in (and as a result of this exits are sometimes blocked); the train was so cramped with people, it gives you ...

A Superb Place To Eat

Advantages: Superb range of food and excellent service
Disadvantages: Not Cheap but still good value for money

The first time I ate here , I thought I'd try the vegetarian Thali. Well you have to haven't you. The Thali is located on Dean Street and is fairly close to a multi storey car park , so you're Ok to come by car. It's also about five minutes walk from Central Station so you're five minutes away from the rail and metro links. The first thing you notice when you walk through the door is the extreme coutesy and helpfulness of the staff. They take your coat, show you to your table and bring a menu and make you feel extremely at ease. Although it is an upmarket restaurant , you aren't made to feel uncomfortable. A meal for two with wine will cost in the region on £35 to £40. The food is excellent, and you are not rushed at all . The clientelle all seem very pleasant when we have been there. It is fairly centrally situated, being ...

Worst Indian Food Ever

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Expensive, bad food

We ate at Thali on Friday 02 Jan 2004. Thali is a combination of bad food and even worst service. I am surprised that this place is even open. We went to Thali as a group of six people. On our entry at 9:00pm found the chef sitting on the bar with a glass of Whisky even though the restaurant was supposed to open until 11:30PM. Two tables were occupied at the time. The service was quite discourteous and the food did not match the description on the menu. We virtually could not eat the food at all. The chicken and meat were of very poor quality, very tough and stringy and the the curry was stale. The complaint about the food was shrugged off with a comment that they had not received any other complaints. ...

Curry's equivalent of Pizza Express

Advantages: Great food, reasonable prices,
Disadvantages: Service can be patchy

option is a Thali - a plate giving you a starter, chicken or lamb curry (you choose which one from the various options available on the menu and can 'upgrade' to king prawn curry for a surcharge), poppadom, chutney, rice, daal, and a vegetable dishes. The hungry among you can opt for the grand thali which includes a couple of extra side dishes. I remember the first time we visited Masala Zone, it was so busy we ended up sharing a table with another couple from India (they're not a communal dining restaurant like Wagamama, but this was a really busy time and we didn't mind) who in chatting to us told us they thought that this was the most authentically Indian food that they'd tasted in London. My most recent visit was to the branch in Covent Garden right opposite the Royal Opera House which has a ceiling decorated entirely with colourful ...
