Advantages: Well located, Gym & Spa Disadvantages: Small Bar, Lack of Sound Proofing
My partner and I decided to have a few days away to celebrate our birthdays, somewhere nice and relaxing and peaceful. After a little think we decided on Oxford, so headed straight for the hotelclub.net website and booked 2 nights in the FourPillarsOxford Spires Hotel partially due to the fact that we had never stayed in a Four Spires hotel as they only have about 5 hotels all in the Oxford area.
The hotel is easy to find as it is located on the main road into Oxford, just off the A34 which is best go to from Junction 13 of the M4. The hotel is set is amongst a small amount of parkland close to the river Thames (more on this a bit further down), and its light coloured stone gives it a welcoming feel. Just outside main entrance there are a few 'short stay' parking spaces which can be used when checking in / out to avoid having to ...
Advantages: Well located, grand rooms, excellent health suite Disadvantages: Food slightly dissappointing
This hotel is beautifully located for visiting the city of Oxford laying just between the main A34 and the town centre, which is just a short walk away. Set in lovely grounds, the reception area is welcoming and the staff are highly professional, impeccably dressed and make you feel so very welcome.
The hotel has conferencing facilities and meeting rooms which are well serviced and having spent two days of meetings there, everything was delivered exactly as ordered and dead on time. As it was a lovely morning, they also quickly accommodated our request to take coffee on the patio outside.
The rooms were exceptionally large and well equipped ?mine had a huge four poster 6 ft bed! There was a large TV with remote, neatly stored away in a lovely cabinet, a mini bar and a large en-suite bathroom with walk in shower, separate bath, WC ...
Advantages: Quiet walks by the river after a Big breakfast! Disadvantages: Caters for the men more than the women
of people in the bar area, spilling out into the courtyard and tons of children running around screaming ... you get the picture.
Location
The FourPillarsOxford Spires is located within walking distance to the city centre of Oxford. It is along Abingdon road and while we were there, there were major road works and the traffic into and out of the city was really bad. Please do not confuse the Oxford Spires with the Abingdon FourPillars which is in Abingdon on Marcham Road.
I selected the Spires because there is a path from the hotel that leads to the pathway along the River Thames. On most mornings and evenings, it is a very peaceful and relaxing walk. Furthermore, there were sufficient parking on its property and it was free!
