As we walked through Liverpool from the train station we already realised what a wonderful city Liverpool seemed to be, with a great shopping centre and very friendly local people.
When we arrived at the Albert Dock we were very pleasantly surprised. We expected the Beatles Story to be the main attraction at the Dock, but in fact it is only one of many interesting and varied places to see and visit around the Dock.
Of course the River Mersey dominates the whole area and I did not realise just how wide this river was and to sit on the banks of the river watching the boats go by is very relaxing on a sunny afternoon. When we were last there HMS Invincible was anchored in the river on a courtesy visit and this was very spectacular to see. We sometimes forget that Liverpool is still a major working port and that it handles most of the UK trade with North America.
Around the Dock the old buildings have had a complete facelift and it is now a major tourist attraction for the city. There are a number of museums around the whole area plus a variety of small independent shops selling art and craft items, plus many souvenirs of Liverpool and The Beatles.
The two major museums are the Maritime museum and the Tate Gallery (North). Both of these are in some of the old warehouse buildings that have been completed restored and now form wonderful settings for these museums.
Around the edge of the dock are a number of cafes, restaurants and bars where you can either sit inside or outside overlooking the water. You will certainly not go hungry or thirsty in this area, but prices are a little bit higher than you would expect on a High Street.
You can take a boat ride around the docks and of course a short walk away from Albert Dock is the terminal for boarding the Mersey Ferry. Parts of the docks are still used for boats and often there are unusual boats moored in here that are well worth a look at.
Every time we have been to Albert Dock there has been some event on and I assume this probably happens throughout the Summer.
Since our first visit we have returned on a number of occasions and I am sure we will return many more times.
One item you cannot miss is the weather map that Fred used to use for giving the forecast during the Richard and Judy show. The show may have moved but the map is still there in the water. A tourist attraction all of its own.
If you have never been to the Albert Dock then I can certainly recommend a visit, and of course it is free.
Advantages: A lot to do and see. Disadvantages: Can get crowded
The Albert Dock is the major visitor attraction in Liverpool and is an amazing reincarnation for it was a decaying dock area not so many years ago. Today its roaring success is because there is a lot to do and see at this attraction. As the whole world knows the most famous pop group ever were Liverpool born and bred and the Beatles Story Exhibition pulls in a lot of visitors. Liverpool.at one time, was the world's greatest port and the base for migrants ... ...this is well told in the Mersey Maritime Museum. For culture buffs there is the Tate Gallery North to visit and the Customs and Excise Museum attracts a large number of people.
The place has an excellent range of cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants and if you fancy a shopping binge you have a lot of choice with the likes of book shops, arts and crafts stores, fashion shops, jewellers and, should need to make travel arrangements, there are travel agents ...

Advantages: Cheap informative, fun Disadvantages: none
The Albert Dock in Liverpool is the main tourist area of the once thriving Liverpool dock lands. Located within a 5-minute walk from the city centre it is easy to get to. The Albert Dock is home to the old Granada studios where good morning was filmed as well as the world famous Fred's weather map located in the dock. You will find the Tate art galley, which is free to enter and is full of historic and modern art and is a pleasure to visit. The beetle's ... ...most famous band. Finally the other museum is Liverpool Maritime museum which is an informative history of the Liverpool Docks including Liverpool's involvement in the slave trade.
Shopping is good for arts and crafts, as well as memorabilia. There are countless small shops situated around the dock, which you can pick up some good bargains.
As with any tourist attraction there are lots of cafes and restaurants situated in the vacinity and my particular ...

...while you are in Liverpool, the it must be The Albert Dock. It is in essence the main attraction of the city and it is a good place to start if you are looking for a bit of history. Advantages: Easy parking, relaxed atmosphere Disadvantages: not really the best place to look for a bargin
The Albert Dock is a welcome relief for shoppers. Parking is free and plentiful and the shops are far less crowded than the rest of Liverpool City centre. There are some lovely places to stop for a spot of lunch - for a more traditional slant there is the Pump House Pub and for those who like something with a more modern feel there is always the roomy, relaxing, Blues bar - perfect for chilling out after a hard afternoon shopping. The shops are generally ... ...these shops are not the run-of-the-mill chain store variety, so the products are likely to be unique. ...then make sure you take the time to visit the Albert Docks. They were transformed from dilapidated ruins in the mid-to-late Eighties and are now one of the best parts of the city. Advantages: Renovated 19th building with character retained, Good room & breakfast, Helpful staff Disadvantages: My mattress was a bit too firm
I recently stayed at the Premier Inn Liverpool AlbertDock while I was on a training course for work being held in the nearby BT Convention Centre. I normally discuss what led me to make a certain choice of hotel when I come to review them, but in this instance the choice was made for me by my department's budget holder - in other words, this was the cheapest hotel in the vicinity! This also means that I cannot comment directly on what the Premier Inn booking experience is like; I can, however, say the customer service people at their website are prompt to respond to emails and are very helpful, as I contacted them to confirm check-in details and got a friendly reply in less than 24 hours (which is good in my experience of such things). This was my first experience of staying in a Premier Inn hotel, and my only knowledge of them prior to ...
Advantages: New, clean, cheap, polite staff Disadvantages: Dinner was little more than satisfactory
Introduction
I've had to go up to Liverpool for work on a couple of occasions this year. The first time, back in February, I stayed in the Premier Travel in on Vernon Street in the city centre, which was perfectly adequate for its three star rating, although the room was a little shabby. This time, our administrator at work couldn't get me in to the same hotel, but managed to find a booking at the AlbertDock Premier Travel Inn, which is still not too far from the city centre - I have walked it in about 15 minutes and taxi drivers seem to know it well. I was expecting an adequate stay, but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel and services for the money that I was charged.
Booking
I didn't personally book it, but our administrator found it quick and easy to book by email and received fax confirmation almost ...

Premier Travel Inn is the result of a recent merger between the Premier Lodge and Travel Inn hotel chains.
My partner and I were looking for a hotel in Liverpool city centre, close to the bars and attractions. Having made a reservation for dinner at Blue Bar & Grill in the AlbertDock, we made enquiries and were delighted to find that this hotel was only a few steps from the restaurant, and was available at a very reasonable nightly rate (approx. £50 per room per night).
On arrival, we were greeted with Beatles music being played from the dock area downstairs, immediately reminding us of our location and creating a good atmosphere. The hotel reception was clean and the staff friendly and helpful.
On-site facilities include a bar, restaurant and room service provision.
Our room was spacious and comfortable ...
