The Allen Lee hotel is classed as a hostel on many websites but I think this is because of its budget prices. When staying in October this year, we paid $337/ £160 for three nights in a twin room. The hotel is budget-traveler friendly and seemed popular with twenty-somethings and backpackers, which suited us fine. Although the hotel was very basic, it served a decent complimentary breakfast and had free wifi in the lobby.

When we walked in to the lobby, we were pleasantly surprised. The place was clean and bright; the staff were friendly and accommodating. The only problem we had was the room in which we stayed. We stayed on the lower floor in a twin room (although we had requested a double when booking online). The room was relatively clean but it didn't have a very nice feel about it; it was dingy and in need of refurbishment, a stark contrast to the lobby of the hotel. There were bugs in the room, that ran across the walls and carpet. This seemed to be a common problem on the lower floor, but not on floors 2-4. This was such a shame, as everything else in the hotel was very pleasant.

The hotel is situated half a mile from the White House, so is central to most sights. It is right next to the university dorms, so there were some take-away places and grocery shops close by, but the area was nowhere near as busy as we had expected. If you are looking for a quiet hotel and have a room on one of the higher floors, you should have a decent stay at the Allen Lee Hotel.
