The Amalfi Coast

... The Amalfi Coast, although commendably hilly, is populous and has been a holiday resort since Roman times. On this occasion, though, business and family commitments constricted us to early April, so we sought somewhere southerly, not too high up and with other things to do besides ... Read review

A walk above the shores

Advantages: Spectacular coastline, with attractive towns and good walking
Disadvantages: A tourist trap, albeit a superior one

...just done, reminds me of the Amalfi Coast. Or, more specifically, of a walking holiday that my wife and I took there a few years ago, organised by that company, which may serve as an example both their holidays and of the attractions of the area itself. It is not a destination we would normally have chosen for walking, an activity best enjoyed in mountain areas far from the madding crowd. The Amalfi Coast, although commendably hilly, is populous ...
...to do besides walking if the weather proved adverse. In the event, we coincided with a freak cold spell and were even snowed on – south of Naples in April! – but that was just luck of the meteorological draw, and we decided to spend most of our time walking irrespective of the temperature.

'''Where exactly is the Amalfi Coast?'''

In southern Italy, facing out over the Tyrrhenian Sea. Lay your right hand flat ... more

...requests to transfer funds to the UK. He invited me to come with him and tour the Amalfi coast at the same time. We flew to Naples (you can fly BA, Alitalia, Lufthansa, Swissair, Iberia, AirFrance, BMI, Easyjet - the list is endless) and picked up a hire car. If you do the same, lock your boot - a favourite way to rip off tourists at the moment is to bang another car into a hire car (conspicuous by being the only cars on the road without bumps and ...
...and out of lanes is the norm; don't stop at red lights if there's nothing coming; don't stop at zebra crossings unless a pedestrian is right in front of you; a few bumps and scratches are an everyday occurrence. Car hire is expensive in Italy too, if you're brave enough, pre-book with an international agency. The alternative is a train with four routes from Naples to Sorrento, Pompeii/Poggiomarino, Ottaviano/Sarno, Nola/Biano. The train runs from ...

The Amalfi Coast -----Is this the best scenic route in Europe???

Advantages: Breathtakingly beautiful.
Disadvantages: The road is not one for the feint of heart

...my most memorable holidays was the two weeks I spent in the Bay of Naples. We fitted so much in to the 14 days we were there, it was an incredible holiday. We visited the fantastic Pompeii ( a must do experience worthy of a review of its own), we climbed to the top of Vesuvius, we visited Herculaneum, Capri, Sorrento, Naples and had an incredible couch journey around the Amalfi Coast. It is the Amalfi Coast that I am going to write this review about ...
...- absolutley stunning, in fact the Amalfi Coast is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The scenery along the coast makes you feel as if you are in the middle of a holiday post card - it does literally take your breath away - it is, from what I have seen, the most spectacular road in Europe. Tha Amalfi Coast ( la Costiera Amalfitana) in Campania, is on the Sorrento peninsula south of the Bay of Naples, it runs for 50 kilometres from Positano ...

The Amalfi Coast

Advantages: stunning scenery, very relaxing
Disadvantages: many hotels built on hilly ground

...base for exploring one of the most beautiful parts of Europe my partner and I spent two weeks touring this area of Italy. We stayed in a 4* hotel with a view over the bay of Naples with spectacular Vesuvius in the background. The general standard of hotel accommodation looked good with plenty of choice. There were plenty of places to eat, for a snack to a 5 course meal to suit all budgets. Plenty of organised trips if you wanted, from exploring ...
...breathtaking and definitely not for the faint hearted driver (or passenger) but the views were worth every heart stopping moment. Although a major tourist area the local people were a delight and seemed to genuinely like visitors. The town centre of Sorrento is worth a visit in the evening, just to do what the locals do - watch the world go by. Sit in one of the many open air cafes with a coffee or something a little stronger, relax and enjoy. ...

The most beautiful place in the world

Advantages: Beautiful, Italian, romantic
Disadvantages: Very narrow roads and very hilly

The Amalfi coast is possibly one of the most beautiful and romantic places in the world. We got engaged there, in Ravello, so it obviously holds a very special place in my heart. There are several towns which are beautiful to stay in. We were based in Positano which is split into 2 areas by a deep ravine. All hotels are ont eh cliff face with fantastic views out to sea. Positano can get a bit touristy in high season so I would recomend going in Spring ...
...of very special hotels if your budget allows. Otherwise there are plenty of excellent guest houses which are clean and comfortable. Amalfi itself is an historically interesting town and well worth a visit. As is Ravello on the top of the hills, famous for Wagner stories and wonderful outside concerts. ...

Sorrento Pompeii and Amalfi Coast

Advantages: ideal for non flyers wishing to travel to the warmer climate of the med.
Disadvantages: NOT A TRIP FOR CHILDREN WHO WILL GET RESTLESS ON A LONG COACH JOURNEY

August 2007 Holiday with WA Shearings to Sorrento and Amalfi Coast Italy. Using the Grand Tourer Service. August 2007. Decided on this type of holiday as my wife had taken a dislike to flying! This seemed the best option of a holiday abroad, in the sun. This particular tour offered a 6 night stay at a resort (SORRENTO) Others are based on a total Touring option. Organisation. Our Holiday began at our chosen pick up point where my wife and I were collected by a Feeder Vehicle (in this case a people carrier) The timing was exactly as predicted on our itinery. We were picked up and set off on time. Then to a neighboring town where other passengers were waiting to be collected. Onwards to a motorway services which served as a central location where other feeder vehicles were arriving. Once all the feeder services had ...

Nice bed and breakfast in a relaxin place

Advantages: Far form traffic
Disadvantages: No found

Nice bed and breakfast not far from Sorrento with sea view room. Cheap and Clean accommodation, ideal as for family as for friends holiday. Disabled individuals have all comfort for their stay. The staff is very nice and can suggest nice excursions and things to do around the area. The place is nice also to organize small receptions, wedding and party. Token from the web site: Porto Salvo offers its guests numerous exclusive services to make their stay even more enjoyable: international buffet breakfast with a vast selection of sweets, jams, cheeses cold cuts and other tidbits, outdoor parking on the property, transfer to and from Naples airport and the Sorrento train station, dinner service upon request, tour reservations for Herculaneum and Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast and wonderful spots on the Sorrento Peninsula, boat trips to Capri ...

Review of Porto Salvo, Sorrento

Wonderful Sorrento

Advantages: fantastic scenery and good food
Disadvantages: not enough time to see everything

Sorrento has it all, the hospitality of Italy combined with a relaxed atmosphere. It is located on the Amalfi coast which is home to some of the most scenic views in all of Italy. Sorrento is very clean and has a small city that offers great seafood and all Italy's specialty cuisines. I would definatly reccomend it to everyone who wants to make the trip to Southern Italy, its worth it. Sorrento is an excellent alternative to staying in Napoli - it isn't plagued by the same poverty and graffiti. The town is beautiful and offers convenient ferries to Capri, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Sorrento is linked to Naples by an inter-city train system that is farily convienient. Early spring is especially perfect here because of all the orange and lemon groves in various backyards and gardens. Stayed at the "Sorrento Holiday ...
