The Amalfi Coast

Updating my review of Inntravel, as I have just done, reminds me of the Amalfi Coast. Or, more specifically, of a walking holiday that my wife and I took there a few years ago, organised by that company, which may serve as an example both of their holidays and of the attractions of the area itself. Scenic drive along the Amalfi coast. The drive along the Amalfi coast is perhaps one of the most stunning drives in the world driving along roads built into the sides of the cliffs that drop steeply into the sea hundreds of feet below you. Once upon a time I was very much in love with an Italian, who was very bad for me. He was nearly twice my age, didn't work but raced and wrote about Italian cars. He lived in England but visited Italy often. One spring he needed to go over to Italy to retrieve some money from a small Italian bank that was refusing / ignoring requests to transfer funds to the UK. THE AMALFI COAST One of my most memorable holidays was the two weeks I spent in the Bay of Naples. We fitted so much in to the 14 days we were there, it was an incredible holiday. We visited the fantastic Pompeii ( a must do experience worthy of a review of its own), we climbed to the top of Vesuvius, we visited Herculaneum, Capri, Sorrento, Naples and had an incredible couch journey around the Amalfi Coast. Using Sorrento as a base for exploring one of the most beautiful parts of Europe my partner and I spent two weeks touring this area of Italy. We stayed in a 4* hotel with a view over the bay of Naples with spectacular Vesuvius in the background. The general standard of hotel accommodation looked good with plenty of choice. There were plenty of places to eat, for a snack to a 5 course meal to suit all budgets. Plenty of organised trips if you wanted, from exploring Capri to the wonders of volcanic preservation!
