Using Sorrento as a base for exploring one of the most beautiful parts of Europe my partner and I spent two weeks touring this area of Italy. We stayed in a 4* hotel with a view over the bay of Naples with spectacular Vesuvius in the background. The general standard of hotel accommodation looked good with plenty of choice. There were plenty of places to eat, for a snack to a 5 course meal to suit all budgets. Plenty of organised trips if you wanted, from exploring Capri to the wonders of volcanic preservation! The coastline in parts was breathtaking and definitely not for the faint hearted driver (or passenger) but the views were worth every heart stopping moment. Although a major tourist area the local people were a delight and seemed to genuinely like visitors. The town centre of Sorrento is worth a visit in the evening, just to do what the locals do - watch the world go by. Sit in one of the many open air cafes with a coffee or something a little stronger, relax and enjoy.
