I'll never forget my trip which was to Nepal, and the Annapurna region. I spent 3 weeks of sheer heaven. I went with a company called "Explorer" they are a small comany that does adventure holidays. My borther and I went to Nepal in November. The perfect time because it was the end of the tourist season which meant most of the campsites where empty.
We spent the first 3 days in Kathmandu, sightseeing with guide who took us around the city, and took us to places that were ethically and environmentally friendly. Oh I forgot to mention that we were staying in a 5 star hotel not far from the city itself. Our room had a beautiful view of the mountains.
After we finished our 3 day tour, we ventured of what was to be the highlight of the trip, a nine day trek through the Annapurna region. Our tour leader told us what to pack. We had to take with us a day sack which had to include waterbottles, waterproof clothes, first aid kit and sunblock. We also had to pack our main bag, we had to pack almost everything, fresh clothes for when we returned to our hotel in Kathmandu.
The first day we were taken by couch to the drop off point, where we would start on our trek. Along with a group of 14 of our fellow travellers, we had a our tour leader, 3 sherpas which were there for the group, if we needed any help climbing and walking up the mountains, there was whole team of 32 people. Some were carriers of lugauage and camping equipment, while others made sure we were fed well. We were left to concentrate on walking and enjoying the everchanging scenery, forests, rivers, birds, eagles, villages and not to mention countless children shouting namaste pen. The highlight of the trip for me was celebrating my birthday at 2000m. The whole group put up the tent decorated it with flowers. I felt almost like flying that day. THe cooks actaully managed to steam a cake for me, that once of the most happiest days in life. The rest of the trek we made our way down the moutntains to the city of Pohkhra. The rest of our trip we went whitewater rafting for 3 days, and after that we went on a safari for 3 days. The whitewater rafting was wonderful and safari and great. The whole trip was well organised and unforgetable. If anyone wants to go to Nepal, go with Explorer.
