Advantages: My home for 5 years - I miss you Crete Disadvantages: Winters are not that nice
...cheap flights online, or look around early enough for the cheap offers from the travel agents! You can get cheap rooms, but also 5 stars hotels!
The places you should have seen on your holidays (okay, you probably can't fit everything into one stay - but that gives you the best excuse to come back again):
1. Knossos palace (Iraklion)
2. Market hall (Hania)
3. harbours (Iraklion, Hania, Rethymno - I prefer the one in Hania)
4. Fortezza (Rethymno)
5. ArchaeologicalMuseum (Iraklion)
There are many more places which are worth seeing but those five are a must see! I have to write an extra review on sightseeing.
Things to take back from Crete are amongst many others:
Nice memories, lovely photos, the "Crete" virus and of course some of the specialities, like Raki (schnapps), olive oil, honey and some herbs from one of the markets.

Advantages: Lots to do, quite cheap Disadvantages: gets really busy
...I have recently been on holiday to Crete and i found it a good destination for young people. We stayed at the resort of Malia, which seems to be the most lively resort with plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants to choose from. Most of the restaurants offer semi traditional Greek food as well things like chips etc. We found the old town better or food in a more traditional greek setting.
There is also plenty to do during the day - a visit to the Minoan palace of Knossoss on which the legend of the minotaur was based is well worth it. Most of the items found here are on display at the museum in Iraklion. There is also a Minoan palace a short walk from the resort of Malia. A visit to the former leper colony on the island of Spinalonga is also an unusual trip. Theres always the beach as well of course.
IN summary i would rate Crete very...

Advantages: Endlessly interesting Disadvantages: Not open Mondays
...In these times where everything seems to cost money, the Ashmolean Museum in Beaumont St., Oxford, offers a rare chance to be inspired by a range of art, archaeology and history, which is both educational and mor importantly free. Naturally contributions towards the running costs are much appreciated as is custom in its shop, but unlike many of the cathedrals in the UK, the museum does not go over the top in trying to persuade you to part with your money.
What the museum does do, however, is inform, educate and amuse. Not only does it house some truly wonderful collections, but the range of areas covered is impressive. The collections of tapestries, musical instruments, paintings, coins, and archaeological finds are among the finest in the country and indeed in the world. This is the kind of place that you will find yourself coming back...
