I found the restaurant to be very disappointing although, it wasn't the food that let them down (which was delicious) but rather the attitude of the staff and the manager. Almost half of the menu was unavailable on our visit which I complained about online the next day. I also complained about the waiting staff who were, in my opinion, dour-faced. The response I got suggested the menu problem was a result of being busy and running out and wasn't their fault. Not my fault either as I am the customer! Apparently the waitress "just looks like that". So why was she hired? Generally a profuse apology is enough without the transfer of responsibility, when it should rest with the manager. It's not the first time I've been to the Cafe Bar although I'd previously only been for a drink. The bar staff seemed, to me, untrained. The mere mention of a cocktail would have them running around looking for bottles etc. As an ex-bartender with ten years management experience as well, I know it should not take 15 minutes to make a cocktail. All-in-all, The Arches is a Glasgow institution which everyone raves about but, in my opinion, it is "all fur coat and no knickers."
