Most who read this will remember the bomb in 1996. The IRA bomb in Manchester was the largest bomb to be detonated in Britain (or so I read, anyway!!). No-one died, though more than 200 were injured. The area was evacuted beforehand because of a prior warning. Though, of course, people were thankful that there was no loss of life, looking round a city centre that was in ruins devastated a lot of people. In September 2006, the restoration was finished. The Arndale centre now look brilliant - in the ten years it has taken to get it back, they sure have done a hell of a lot to it. When I say it was finished, I mean none of the long 'streets' of the Arndale centre are closed anymore. Some shops still aren't opened yet, but it is close to being there.
Now, moving on from the history.
Shops ======There are extensive clothes shops, including: Bank, Topshop/man (3-floors!), River Island (also 3 floors), Bay trading, BHS (very big!), Burtons, Urban Outfitters (One of the few in the country), H&M, Next, MK One, Oasis, New look, Monsoon, Warehouse, Scotts, and many others. If I were to list them all, I may well be here all day!!
Underwear La Senza, Knickerbox, Ann Summers etc.
Music/electrical HMV, Virgin megastore, Sony centre, Curry's.
Health and beauty Boots (Big store!), Superdrug, Bodycare, Dr and Herbs etc
Jewellers Beaverbrooks, HSamuel, Goldsmiths, Ernest Jones.
This is just to give you a feel of how many major shops there are in The Arndale Centre. It's pretty unbelieveable that they all fit really!!! There are shops to suit whatever you want - typical high street shops - not too cheap, not too expensive. (And if you're really posh, Harvey Nics is just round the corner, with other similar shops!!!)

Eat
There are also places to eat. The food court has Mcdonalds, KFC, Subway, Spud u like etc. There are also many cafes around the place. Within twenty minutes walk is Chinatown, where you can get some great food, but there are a lot of other places too. The slug and lettuce and Cafe uno are just along the road, and, being in the centre of Manchester, as you can imagin, you can find loads of places to eat.
=== Other stuff ========= There is also the Arndale market and the food market. = Facilities =======
There is one set of main toilets in the Arndale centrem which are signposted everywhere, but you can also find toilets in M&S, and a couple of other shops.
Occasionally, in the centre of the Arndale there is something going on. At the moment, there's giant trampolines for kids, but in a few weeks it may be replaced by something else.
There is a helpdesk situated right in the middle of the Arndale centre, and there are various points around the place where you can pick up a map, along with staff wondering round (in bright red jackets) so there are people on hand to ask.
======= How to get there =============It's pretty hard to describe how to get there from all the places you could come from, so, basically, it's about ten minutes from all the train stations and bus stations. Follow the crowd is my advice, but just stop and ask one of us friendly Mancunians and we'll tell you where to go. We are pretty nice, I promise!! There are also free buses around the city centre.
Nearby ======
The Arndale Centre is situated right next to loads of other shops, cafes etc. It is right in the heart of Manchester and you can find loads nearby.
If you're ever in Manchester, make sure you go to the Arndale Centre, and spend a day there. If you live a while away and fancy a good shopping trip, then visit Manchester; it has great shops, places to eat, transport etc. I definitely recommend it.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask, or visit http://www.manchesterarndale.com/
Advantages: Fantastic range of shops, convenient, greatly improved facilities, much nicer than it used to be! Disadvantages: The older parts are still a little dingy
In 2006 the Arndale Centre underwent a major revamp with entirely new sections opening - a vast improvement on its old incarnation!
Yes, the older parts of the centre are still quite dingy, dull and old-fashioned looking. However, the recent work has made the centre a much more pleasant and worthwhile shopping experience.
There are many more stores to be found in the newer parts of the Centre, including the country's largest Next store, new and ... ...much more enjoyable environment than the older parts. The older stores shouldn't be overlooked though, as throughout the whole centre there is a great variety of places to suit your shopping needs - fashion, jewellery, homewares, electronics, entertainment, market stalls, health and beauty, card shops, cafes - there's even a brand new, rather large branch of Aldi providing inexpensive groceries! Many of the stores are admittedly your 'typical' high ...

Advantages: Central Disadvantages: Not as much choice as Trafford Centre
The Arndale is ok but since the opening of the Trafford Cenre, had been living in the shadow of it for a while. The Arndale Centre is much easier to get to on public trasport as it can be reached from Picadilly station then accessed via the metro or free bus. I find the layout of the Arndale incredibly confusing and you end up walking much further than you need to by going back and forth past th same places in order to reach other places as it is ... ...good and has a variety of shops - mainly clothes shops but also some music stores, homeware stores, food shops etc. Overall I would say it is adequate but does not have as much variety as the Trafford Centre whicg is easier to find your way around too! ...

Advantages: well planned Disadvantages: very stuffy in summer, very cold in winter
The Arndale Centre in Manchester has got a wide range of shops as well as an indoor market. The shops are mainly clothes shops, even though there is the Gadget Shop and the Early Learning Centre. In summer the Arndale Centre gets very hot and stuffy and in winter it can be quite cold. The Arndale Centre is well laid out with all of the shops easy to find and plenty of maps to help you find them. Also there are quite a lot of cafes and restaurants ...

Advantages: City Centre - range of Activities, easy access. Friendly place to meet. Disadvantages: Often very crowded, quite small compared to The trafford centre. Food Court is also a bit small.
If you live in Manchester or have heard of the ArndaleCentre you may be aware of the traditional name given to it. In south Manchester it was always referred to as a public convenience, due to the dirty yellow cladding on the exterior of the building. This even today, 34 years since it was built, still remains on the outside of the Arndale tower. What has changed however is the exterior of the rest of the building. In 1996 the building, as with M&S, was ripped to shreds by a bomb left in a small HGV on Corporation Street and to the relief of many mancunians, the bomb took the yellow cladding with it. The arndale was left in a terrible state and work commenced on repairing it, as part of "the new Manchester city centre". The exterior was clad with a lovely red brick colour and a lot is now glass fronted, it is a major improvement from ...
Advantages: Whatever you want you will find Disadvantages: Should be signs sayng where certain shops are
This arndalecentre is the best to date in my eyes.
I have been going to Manchester arndale for over twenty years from when was a child, i have seen the changes over the years and i can say this is the best the anrdale has looked with new and improved designer shops.
You have your cheap shops like Primark all the way up to Armani stores.
My brother owns his own hair salon just around the corner from the arndalecentre and the amount of people you see peassng his shop on their way to the arndale is astounding which proves it is still at its best.
If anyone isnt from Manchester and you are down here i suggest you take a trip to the arndalecentre and i am sure you will fnd yourself going back one day trust me. ...
Advantages: Close to transport networks, shops close together, plenty of food outlets Disadvantages: Often very busy,
If you like busy, bustling places, with shops that stretch beyond the eye can see, fronted by tasteful modern building design. The ArndaleCentre shows Manchester at its best, accomodating a wide range of shops (arguably the largest shopping amalgamtion in the center of Manchester) which certainly kept me looking all day. Whether its inside or outside the center there is always something to see. There are plenty of other attractions that can be seen and visited that are located just off the ArndaleCentre. It is quite easy to get lost inside so remember where you have been in order to retrace your steps if you do get a little confused. The only disadvantage that i found was that it can get awfully busy, this is especially so during the Christmas period. If you dislike busy places then this is not the place to go, especially ...
