The mosh pits there have never been very violent at all - the worst i have come back with was a bruised eye and that as my own fault anyway!! They have another bar at the bakc of the standing ... Read review

Advantages: great sound, venue, atmosphere! Disadvantages: quite dark!
I have been to the Astoria quite a few times now and so far i have managed to see Less Than Jake, Vanilla Pod, Frenzal Rhomb, Goldfinger and King Prawn there. Each and every gig was amazing, each gig being better than the one before it!
This is not only due to the extremely talented bands, but a lot of the credit has to go to the actual venue itself. Although rather small compared to venues such as Wembley stadium, it actually out-does these larger ... ...seating area which looks over the stage so if youre tired from standing up, you can still enjoy the great music and an amazingly good view of the band.
It is a very safe venue as well with many friendly security guards who are there to ensure that people in the mosh pits are safe. They are there and ready to help people out and another bonus is that crowd-surfing is allowed!

~~History~~
The Astoria was originally a Crosse and Blackwell pickle factory. It has since been reincarnated as a music hall, theatre and the live music venue ... ...the Mean Fiddler group (now part of ClearChannel) in May 2000. Bands to have played on the Astoria's stage include Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Metallica, David Bowie, Oasis, Prince, U2, Eminem and The White Stripes.
~~Inside the Venue~~
The Astoria has been used in its current guise as a gig venue and nightclub for over twelve years, and unfortunately it shows. What was presumably a once stylish and clean interior is now somewhat dilapidated, with ...

Of the Stars Review ofThe Astoria (London)by
bergmcberg
Advantages: Its a really good venue... Disadvantages: ... its only as good as the act playing
The Astoria has been a feature of my life for donkeys years now. Yes - I am an old git, but first went there when I was about 15 (Dont tell my mum!) It was where i went when I used to watch rock bands. I saw Soundgarden play there, Radiohead, Foo Fighters,Therapy, The Wonderstuff, Leatherface, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana and plenty of others too. Such funky, drunken times were had that I cant remember a hell of a lot about where i was or what i was ... ...load of chicken feathers on the crowd. I don't know why. Later on when I had decided that "real" music was simply not for me anymore i've been there raving several times, seeing DJ's like Andy C, Shy FX, Kenny Ken, Doc Scott and Goldie and hundreds of others playing. The difference in atmosphere is quite remarkable - even the venue itself seems to take on different dimensions. One thing about the Astoria though is that its a pretty major venue, and ...

...Nu-Metal and punk lover (music)
The Astoria has to be the best venue for that kind of music I have ever been to.
Beating Wemberley Arena in terms of viewing (the astoria is small, so you see much)
The security there are very good, helpful and happy to help if you get lost, stuck or injured.
The mosh - pits they have there have always been quite fun, and i've never really got injured there.
They allow crowd surfing which is a bonus.
I've seen ... ...performance, sound quality or venue.
I have been to both LA1 and LA2 (Both in same building) and both are great.
Prices of drinks however are a little excessive - £2 for a bottle of water? I would recomend this to young people also, wanting to see great live music, due to it's size (small - not overwhelming) ...

Advantages: Friendly and interesting Disadvantages: Leans towards the "cheesy" side at times
The Astoria has got quite a reputation, so when you get there it's comforting to find out that the place is a friendly and relaxed venue. I did find the crowd to be a very young studenty type, but maybe that's just me getting old! But if you do go, then expect lots of glitter wigs and alcopops. The place itself is large enough to be interesting and varied and small enough to locate your lost friends without spending the whole evening looking for ...
