This week I found myself staying in the Beach Hotel in Worthing. My assistant always tries to put me i somewhere that I will like, I am not being fussy or nothing but I wouldn't stay just anywhere. I have a relatively high standard when it comes to accommodation.

Having done a little bit of research on the net after she had advised me where I was staying I found out that it was quite a large hotel, family owned and from the pictures it didn't look all that bad.

On arrival at the hotel, it did look very big. I walked up the stairs to be greated by some rotating doors, that you had tp push to actually get in. Me being me and slightly blond sometimes pushed the wrong side and realised that I wasn't going to budge them if I did that. I always thought things like that go clockwise, however these went round anti-clockwise, and got me a little confused.

When you have finally battled with the entrance, the reception is very welcoming as you walk in. Quite oldy worldy in some aspect, however very large with 2 lifts in front of you and a corridor to the conference rooms that they have there. The room directly in front of you has a circular of leather chairs and leather couches all around. The reception desk is in the corner so I made my way over to check in.

It was very quite when I arrived however it was pretty late, however this is a sea-side resort so probably only get passing trade like myself when it is out of season. The staff behind the reception were very pleasant and helpful. They went through where everything was, offered me a wake up call and newspaper in the morning and gave me my room key, which was an actual key and directed me to the lift.

There are two lifts available and to be honest I aren't a great fan of lifts and I could not see any stairs to get to my floor so up I went in the lift. When I got to my floor and the lift opened directly in front of me were some very old fashioned glass doors, somewhat not that I would have anticpated. Walking through the doors I entered the corridor and noticed that the decor hadn't been touched for what could only be over a decade ago, it was in need of modernisation in the corridors and was not what I was expecting judging by the standards of when you actually walk into the hotel. The rooms I noticed where numbered with wooden signs and the doors were not very good quality either. I got to my room and as always I wondered what was going to be on the other side.

Walking into the room, I turned the light on, the bathroom was directly in front of me with the door shut. First impressions I wasn't overly impressed, the carpet was brown and looked as though it was in desperate need for a good clean. The rooms itself was a double room but not very spacious if there were two people staying in there, It had a double bed, wardrobe to the direct left of it. A chair was right in front of the wardrobe so to get in there you would have had to battle with that. I was only staying for one night though so didn't bother. I was suprised to see a flat screen television on the dressing table. An old fashioned mirror was over top of the dressing table and I had tea and coffee making facilities. The room itself was very warm, a little too warm, but I guess they get better weather down there so I wasn't quite used to it. The decor definitely needed to have something done with it.

The bathroom was a fair size, however the floor was uneven and when taking a bath they didn't provide a bath mat and I found the floor to be very slippy. It also had a shower curtain that the rail went over the bath and I found myself keep bashing it as I dried myself off. Anyone taller would hit there head on it. The decor was hidious in this room, its what I would have expected to see i the 1980's at a good hotel. Definitely in need of modernisation.

I ordered room service from reception, a large glass of vino and the Beach Burger and home made fries. It took 20 minutes to arrive which I was impressed with. The food itself was very nice. It was a homemade burger with a slice of emmental and a salsa dressing served on a panini with home made chips. It cost £7.95 and was very nice. My vino cost £5 a glass which I though was a rip off. Up here in the north, maximum you a going to pay is £3.60 and that is at a decent restaurant.

The room had sky television as as the night came to a close, it did get a little comfortable. To chill out on the bed it was okay, however I found myself waking this morning with horrendous back ache, so I will give the bed a measly 1 / 5.

Breakfast is served in the restaurant, as you go down you have to wait to be seated. Once seated it is waite / ess service. They will ask you what beverage you would like and whether you would like brown or white toast. This is then bought to you very quickly and then they will ask what hot food you require. It would be rude not to have a full english to start the day so I did. It took just over 5 minutes to arrive, piping and cooked to perfection. Top score for the food that the hotel does.

Checking out was fine and again the staff were very pleasant. My account came to £78 which included my room service for the night before too. In general this isn't one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in however it is not the worst either. It has its good points and its bad points. In need of desperate modernisation, other than that it would be fine, but this is a little off putting when the wallpaper is slightly falling over in the rooms.

Do it up a bit and I may consider going back, until then its a no no, may just call in for breakfast if I am back down there soon.
