The Bel Air Collection, Cancun

...I have just returned from Bangkok and it was certainly an eye opener in more ways than one. A fine stay at the Bel Aire Princess Hotel complimented my trip. The first time you step foot outside the airport in Bangkok it's like having your head wrapped in a hot towel. The humidity is certainly far different from anything you will experience in the UK. So it's with trepidation that you approach your stay, you ask yourself whether you can sleep in this kind of weather. Well the Bel Aire certainly took away all those worries. The hotel is well known so any taxi driver at the Airport should be able to take you to your destination without a hitch. You'll find it located on Soi 5 off the Sukhumvit road. ...as the rest of Cancun,but they really did select the best sand,haven't yet been on a nicer beach, well maintained and clean,also accessed mainly by hotels making it semi-private. There are plenty of watersports the usual paragliding jet skis and sailing (sailings free at some hotel).Scuba diving is available at the watersport centres with dive instructors at most hotels for those that would like to try,bieng a diver myself i highly reccomend it. The sea is wonderful,with an average temp of 23 degrees,beware of strong currents in certain areas,there are also lifeguard on duty to advice . Shops Shopping can be exspensive,there are a few shopping malls offering designer goods and food.The malls are modern air-condtioned and well maintained where you can shop in comfort ,Not many bargains to be had though.Outside is where you find the bargains... ...*Update* pictures added - see below. Cancun is to Mexico as Benidorm is to Spain. Despite this, we went and had a great time. Here’s the op: The place we stayed was an all-inclusive resort, the Moon Palace, so some of this opinion will relate to the specific resort. See http://www.moon-palace.com/ for more information on the resort. The flight and arrival: Very long – the longest I’ve ever been on. It took 11 hours from London Gatwick to Cancun. We flew with My Travel, although our holiday was booked with JML. Tip for the unwary: be prepared to have your suitcases searched at Cancun airport when you arrive, and again when you leave. They don't have a scanner for baggage, other than a handheld one for carry-on luggage, so they search it all by hand instead. Including your dirty laundry on the way... Read review
