It's a pretty tall order to call any book "one of the greatest reference books ever ... more
published" but the Independent on Sunday says just that of The Cambridge Factfinder. The publishers, Cambridge University Press, similarly claim that the fourth edition of the book is "the most comprehensive, authoritative and up-to-date general factbook available". Certainly The Cambridge Factfinder is one of the best books of its kind. It is concise, easy-to-use, well laid out and affordable; moreover it covers a formidable range of subjects, from star constellations to the female winner of the 2000 Biathlon World Championship. The 14 sections are clearly marked, and the Areas of Knowledge contents list, full Table of Contents and approximately 130 pages of index make sure that the reader is more than able to navigate his/her way around the book. Possibly one of the most useful sections is Human Geography, which not only features a political map and a map showing population density, but also lists largest nations by area and by population, and the largest cities by population. The alphabetically arranged country summaries include a small but clear black and white map, and feature essential information such as currency, capital, language/s, and head of state and political status, among other things. If the Factfinder suffers from anything it is lack of colour, but the illustrations and maps are clearly and generously spread throughout the 900-plus pages, and presumably this omission relates more to the book's reasonable price than to economy on the publisher's part. This is a highly recommended buy. --Aruna Vasudevan

Quick review of The Cambridge
The Cambride is one of the worst pubs for lunchtime/evening food and value for money. It is expensive as a student pub, even though on campus. A couple of other locals to campus of recommondation are Ye Old Cracke ( new chef) and the Blackburn Arms. Avoid this rip-off place like the plague. Another to avoid is the Agustus John (AJ). No cellar and warm beer. ...

Advantages: Good fun, beautiful scenery Disadvantages: Possibilities of falling in if punting yourself!
Punting is one of the most traditional things to do on a summers day in Cambridge. When the weather is good, it can often get quite busy, but that only adds to the excitement (especially if doing the punting yourself!).
Punts can be hired in several locations around the city; you can either go through the more country route from Grantchester (where there are fantastic outdoor tea rooms in an orchard), or along the 'Backs' of Cambridge, past the likes of Kings College. Either offers a very scenic view!
Especially in summer, there are often a number of people trying to entice you to their punts. There are several different companies, including ones such as Scudamores. Punts range in sizes and prices; you can either punt yourself, or hire a 'chauffeured' punt, whilst your guide gives you a history of the beautiful scenery and buildings ...
Advantages: Great food and accomodation, lots of facilities Disadvantages: None
We recently stayed at the Hotel Felix in Cambridge for the weekend and we had such a fantastic time so i thought as no one had written a review yet that maybe i should be the first!.
The hotel is really easy to find and its only about a mile from cambridge city centre..
Hotel Felix is a traditional, large victorian building on the outside but its really modern looking on the inside.
The hotel stands in really spacious surroundings and it has a large terrace and lovely gazebo for outside dining which is lovely especially when the weathers nice.
We found all the staff to be very professional and friendly and we got checked in very quickly - about 5 minuites in total.
The rooms were modern and minimilistic looking and were very spacious, our room was simply decorated and the colours were very neutral, the view from our ...
Advantages: Seeing the real Cambridge. Disadvantages: It is a little run-down. Mind your wallet!
This is an opinion of a part of Cambridge that many tourists miss. Did you know that Mill Road is the biggest third shopping area in Cambridge?
Mill Road is a long road split in half by a railway bridge. It is an area of terrace housing and flats interspersed with businesses and shops, pub and drop-in centres. There are a wide variety of shops including specialist organic and ethnic, interspersed with the more main stream banks, pharmacies and even the post office.
Mill Road has its fair share of problems. Mill Road provides a good example of the chronic; common resident’s problems across the City of Cambridge. Okay, so the police station is at the top end of Mill Road, but it does not deter the drunken lout or the speeding motorists. Many of Cambridge’s visitors never see Mill Road. Its shops are suffering with high ...
